FX's FARGO Discussion Thread

Works for me, because I'm 5 episodes into season 1 now, and this shit is fuckin awesome.

Also just heard today they were renewed for a 3rd season, so this whole show has been a nice surprise for me this week.

(did I scoop DLX on that btw? can't look through the thread cuz spoilers :D )

News to me at least, thanks :)

Have you watched the movie as well? Highly recommended if you havent.

Dude I skipped school one day to sneak off & watch Fargo in the theater in the 90's, as a youngen. Middle of a weekday, there was like me, and 4 old people in the theater. Blew my shit away. Fargo O.G. up in here. :D

I was way too dumb in the 90's to realise how good that movie was. I rented it on VHS once, I think, but didnt finish it. Was well into my 30's before I watched the whole thing. Great movie.

I actually watched Fargo when I was like 5 or 6 for the fact it was set where I used to live lol, I remember always feeling really sorry for Steve Buscemi's character when the native American beats him up infront of the hooker AND when he gets tossed into the chipper.

Seriously? Nobody is talking about tonight's episode?

I'm too disgusted with you all right now to get a discussion going. For shame.

What did Lou's wife discover in the den? Is Lou chasing aliens or is he one? I'm confused.

The execution scene with Bear and Mike Milligan being a badass were amazing. This show is ridiculously good

Can't stand the film. Could only get about halfway thru season 1 of this show.

This season is fantastic so far tho. I guess its just the storyline here that grabs me as I can appreciate to some degree the acting and writing of all 3.

Those looked like Celtic and Germanic rune symbols. He also had a book on pagan gods or something (I saw the word pagan on the cover). It seems like Ted Danson's character was using them to protect his daughter due to her cancer.

"Mikey Milligan and thE bathroom brothers. " LOL.

That line stuck in my head for a couple days. Great season so far. I still like season 1 more than most people though. I like this season better when it's less focused on the mob elements, which I don't care about that much, even though Milligan is a good character.

Hank's den with his research everywhere was excellent. I love to do the same thing. Whenever people see it they think you're crazy. The book that was laying out was called Palaces Of The Gods. The one I'm finding on google doesn't seem to be the right one since it was written in the 80's.

Simone truly proved she was her father's daughter when she went to Mike's hotel to berate him.

The guy just shot up her house with her in it, what did she think was going to happen?

Thought the same thing.... she too is a little "touched".

Simone's story turned out to be the most tragic so far. At first she just looks like a whore but she was actually working with the one man who could kill her father. Killing her father sounded fucked up until we find out he abused her, possibly sexually. Her uncle, who also wants Dodd dead is the one to kill her. Simone and Bear want the same thing but Simone went about it the wrong way. If only she knew her uncle Bear was going to kill Dodd, she would have never slept with the enemy.

Doubt that, she would have done it anyways or something of the sort. Where'd you get the sexual abuse from only thing it ever showed is Dodd being strict and not tolerating stupidity, disloyalty or whoredom and occasionally giving her a slap. Considering that abuse is a stretch in general let alone in the 70's. That scene between Dodd and Bear involving the belt eluded to their childhood and shows it wasn't uncommon for any kids in their family to receive that type of treatment. They clearly got it worse than anything shown involving Simone but play stupid games win stupid prizes, Simone won. Zero sympathy for her character.

When Bear is driving Simone to the woods, Simone is pleading with him to spare her, reminding him "what Dodd does to her". That part made it clear she was abused in someway worse than the normal spankings. She had a real hate for men, especially the knes in her family so I don't think she was fucking Mike just for shits and giggles. That was her only way to get Dodd. She couldn't go to anyone on the crew without him finding out.

That last scene in the woods is supposed to bring Simone's character to a full 180 degrees. It explains why she hates Dodd. Why she went against the family (to have Dodd killed). She was pissed at Mike for killing the Granpa because he wasn't the target she gave him. Then, her wanting Dodd was validated by Bear also wanting him dead. By the end of the scene all of her agressions had been explained.

That's what you inferred and it wouldn't automatically mean sexual abuse. I took it as her referencing the 'physical abuse'. I also didn't get the impression she hated all men but instead simply didn't like being under the thumb of a strict Father. She viewed her sexuality and being promiscuous as a means of rebelling same way some girls who have very religious upbringings end up becoming porn stars.

If Bear ends up killing Dodd and says something about it then you'll be proven right but if this is all the season shows on the matter i think you're reaching.

There is also the scene with the type writer salesmen in the middle of no where when Dodd tells her to stay in the truck -she disobeyes him and gets slapped prompting her to ask 'is that getting you hard'

That statement stood out to me. Could mean nothing, but there have been some uncomfortable moments between the two of them like that in the show and I've been wondering if they were eluding to more than just Dodd smacking her around. Either way she was an unlikable character -but in some ways I think that may have been the point to some extent.

There is a small part of me that's wondering if Bear wound up letting her go too. Very small but Bear seems to be very introspective and capable of understanding things on a much deeper level than most of the other villains in the show outside of Milligan -who is a deep thinker himself.

These actors are acting the fuck out of their parts all around. Great writing and dialogue as well. This might be one of the most well acted single seasons of television I've seen. I will own this season on DVD or in some fashion. Fantastic on many levels.
