FX's FARGO Discussion Thread

"Mikey Milligan and thE bathroom brothers. " LOL.

That line stuck in my head for a couple days. Great season so far. I still like season 1 more than most people though. I like this season better when it's less focused on the mob elements, which I don't care about that much, even though Milligan is a good character.

Agree. Fargo is at its best when it documents the every day, innocuous small town Midwesterners forced into circumstances alien to their understanding of life. Hence Ed had to transform from the dopey butcher dreaming about owning a small shop into a calculated player of the game(called it!). He and Peggy will become the decisive factor in the Kansas-Fargo war. Ed will not make it to the end of the last episode though.

In comparison Fargo S1 started off stronger and is still the best overall but S2 is closing the distance. Both are excellent and like S1 this is one of the few series I know I will watch more than once.

Trying to compile the Coen brothers references this season. Obviously the music, last episode more on the nose than previously, but also the meat grinder, the awkward car crash, the obvious Karl-Walter parallels (that awkward hug), "those farm boys have never been face to face with a serious man", what am I missing?

The language and phrases used sometimes mimic exact wording or lines from some of their past films.

It could just be a sentence here or there, but I notice little nuances like that in the show. Really dig the moments where I catch them too -there were a couple 'No Country' ones in this past episode.

I disagree as I didn't like the 1st season.

But you know what? I'm giving the 1st season another shot while I wait for the next episode for this season.

I just have to get past how annoying that goofy fat bitch cop is lol

At least we know have a clear picture of how everyone will converge at Sioux Falls for the massacre. Ed and Peggy Blomquist went there for Peggy's damn seminar with Dodd in the trunk and Hanzee hot on their trail.

Bear and the Gerhardts will come in force summoned by Hanzee to rescue Dodd, while Milligan and Kitchen will come to buy Dodd from the Blomquists.

Hank and Lou are headed that way because of the trail of bodies Hanzee is leaving behind.

And there's the chance that the Kanzas City Mob will send enforcers too, if they find out what Mike did to the Undertaker.

Peggy's bitch of a friend/boss is probably already there for the seminar.

Am I missing anyone?

Was hoping to find out more about "The Undertaker". Oh well

You had to know that was coming. Especially when it was some shmuck actor playing the part -Milligan is a badass, no way he just bows out.

When I saw that it wasn't a young Malvo, and just some old schmuck with a couple of Asian bodyguards, I knew he was instantly dead.

Those looked like Celtic and Germanic rune symbols. He also had a book on pagan gods or something (I saw the word pagan on the cover). It seems like Ted Danson's character was using them to protect his daughter due to her cancer.

You can see a book called 'Palaces of the Gods' that looks a lot like 'Chariots of the Gods' which of course set off the whole Ancient Aliens deal.

And some people believe the Celtic and Germanic rune symbols came from some sort of Alien alphabet. Check out this page:

Alien Writings and Symbols

I'll have to re-watch that scene to see if any of the symbols match

I love the phone ringing just after they did it too. Milligan and Kitchen had this 'dammit, I knew that was too easy' look on their faces

Also love the eluding there of Ed being the real undertaker.

'Brotha, I like your style' -Milligan is such a great character

Have you started yet?

That series premiere is easily one of the best of all time.

And give Allison Tolman a chance. She nailed that part.

I haven't yet no, but I made it about 4 episodes in last year when it came out. My OCD effects me with films/shows it seems. If there is a character that bothers me it can ruin everything else for me -and that fat dopey broad cop in season 1 irritates me to the point where I had to shut it down. Wasn't buying Billy Bob in his role either -and I'm a fan of his acting overall.

Did they say in a previous episode if anything happened to the older sister of the lady with cancer? She just mentioned that her husband was supposed to marry her originally.

I was wondering if she may have some tie in with ted danson's room full of the alien stuff.

I think they just said she married some other dude, when buddy got shipped off to Vietnam because she couldn't wait for him.

I don't think there is anything to it.

Then, her wanting Dodd was validated by Bear also wanting him dead. By the end of the scene all of her agressions had been explained.

Bear was only against him because Dodd sent his son to kill the butcher, but ended up getting arrested. Perhaps, they both have misplaced hate for Dodd.

Just finished season 1, what a wonderful surprise of a show. Kind of a BrBa-Lite. Solid writing. Billy Bob was a badass, the british dude from the Simon Pegg movies was great, lady chief was great, lots of great side characters. Even Colin Hanks was really good, and I hated him on Dexter. Looking forward to catching up on season 2 now.

You won't be disappointed.

Season 2 is even better.

Both Lester Nygaard and officer Solverson annoyed me slightly during the first episodes due to their immense sappyness. Lester Nygaard quickly grew on me though and i started to appreciate Molly's role in the story and she played it perfectly. She did come across as an annoying know-it-all at times though, this was done to contrast her policework with that of Bob Odenkirk. Not sure if that could have been written in more subtly. Wouldn't change a thing overall. So buy a Dr.Phil DVD set, get over your OCD and enjoy Fargo S1 for what it really is> Slightly superior to S2.
