FX's FARGO Discussion Thread

Nikki and Wrench stealing that truck was the first moment in season 3 that got me so excited.

So many great moments in this episode. Ewan's terrific performance as Emmit confesses to Gloria. Gloria's reaction when she lost. Gloria's personal triumphant moment when the faucet and soap dispenser worked. She was ready to give up until her little victory. Nikki's face to face with Varga and the little chess match they were playing. Though a dozen things could have gone wrong with her plan, but hey, let's just go with it.

One more episode to go. Hope Nikki and Gloria comes out on top.

By the way, I was bragging earlier in this thread about how I pick up on all kinds of little subtle but direct references to the film Fargo - meanwhile, it took me all the way up until just this week, episode 9 out of 10, to suddenly put it together in my head that the entire 'stamp' thing is a reference to the (film) lead character's husband & his drawing getting accepted on a new stamp (the 3-cent).

Hopefully we get to see Mr. Wrench fuck some shit up in the finale but I suspect he'll finally get caught up, or maybe he does make it out and they keep finding ways to toss him in scenes of future seasons (he has appeared in some form or another in all 3 seasons now).

How did Mr. Wrench tie in to Season 2? That took place in the 1970's...

great show.
1 complaint bout last ep:
nikki had taken an arrow to the leg. later she jumped out of the 16 wheeler, 4' to the ground like it was nothing

They showed him and Mr Numbers as kids playing catch in the park while Hanzee got his new identity.

Ah crap, that's right! I'd forgotten about that.

great show.

She and Mr. Wrench were laying low for 2-3 months before they jacked the truck.

just started binging season 3, loved the first 2 seasons

wanted to wait till all the episodes were released lol, cant wait a week between eps anymore lol

Dat dude da devil yo.

Truck scene, awesome.

What was the deal with the raincoats? All those dudes in the same jackets were plants? And why didnt the deaf dude cap the asian dude with the headphones?

What music is that guy listening to

Even if Varga had Nikki capped on the spot, no one would be able to finger him as the suspect because he had all those plants filling the room who looked almost identical to him. He was invisible for all intents and purposes.

I really don't care for Meemo's hitman schtick. I think Yuri was a much more menacing person and a lot more fun to watch.

Great line, and yeah I agree -I think that's what he is meant to represent (I brought this up in an earlier post). The dude playing Varga better win some serious awards for his performance. Out of everyone on this show, he stands out and is an absolute scene stealer almost every time.

The way he compulsively has to gorge himself really makes him seem like a demon. The bad within him cant help but manifest itself.

Season Finale

A bit underwhelming. Didn't like Nikki's "random" death. Thought she became an even greater character in the last few episodes and wanted her to survive so she can show up in future seasons.

Overall, an entertaining season 3 but not up to par with seasons 1 and 2.

How the hell is nobody talking about the finale?

Weird that you and I looked for this at the same time.

Also, isn't it true there aren't likely to be any more seasons?

Yeah, I hated that scene too.

Would have preferred if she kept going after Varga and killed him.

Told you before, we're Drift brothers. :)

I think there will be but it's still far away. Plus Noah Hawley's pretty busy with his other show Legion and other movie projects.

http://deadline.com/2017/06/fargo-season-3-finale-spoilers-noah-hawley-future-shows-1202117731/

“Please don’t tell people this is the end,” says Fargo series creator Noah Hawley about the recent news that there may never be another season of the FX show. “Right now, I just can’t point to (a production start) date on the calendar.”

Hawley is a busy guy. He’s currently breaking story on the second season of FX/Marvel’s Legion, which goes into production in September and lasts through the first quarter of next year. Then there’s two movies in line for him to direct: Fox Searchlight’s Reese Witherspoon female astronaut movie Pale Blue Dot and the feature adaptation of Hawley’s plane crash novel Before The Fall. And we haven’t even started talking about his limited series adaptation of the Kurt Vonnegut novel Cat’s Cradle for FX.

“I always agreed with FX that the only reason to do another Fargo is if the creative is there,” says Hawley, who at the moment is drawing a blank in regards to what Season 4 would center around.

“It took 15 months to get Season 2 off the ground, and 18 months to get Season 3 on the air. I have to turn my attention to the second season of Legion and a film potentially the winter after next. We’re looking at three years from now,” the EP about a rough timeline for a Fargo Season 4.

What a fucking letdown of a finale. Taints the entire season in my mind.

You're going to lead me to believe that Mr. Wrench was able to take out all those armed guards singlehandedly?

Found Nikki's death to be extremely underwhelming. Strangely enough, I also wasn't mad that she died. For some reason her character never really grew on me. She reminds me a lot of Jane from Breaking Bad. When Jane was choking to death on her own vomit I only felt a smug sense of satisfaction. And while Emmitt wasn't exactly a portrait of virtue, the manner in which Nikki manipulated and lied to the people around her led me to not sympathize for her plight.

Gloria Burgle fucks off to the East Coast and catches up to Varga many years later. But the final confrontation (obviously meant to mirror the interrogation season that opened the first episode) fell completely flat. Gloria wasn't the one who busted the case wide open as the Solversons had in the prior seasons. She never got to one up her commanding officer, prove herself to be the superior police officer. Hell, she never even captured Varga in the first place. So for her to act so high and mighty like she orchestrated the events that lef to his capture got me looking like

<36>

Very disappointed from how this season fell. Had a lot of potential, too. That entire chase sequence with Yuri in the woods was the absolute peak for me. It all went downhill from there.

I was a bit underwhelmed with the finale too. I'm also not a fan of the open ending, If the story is told in a format where it's "based on a true story" then realistically there should be a conclusion tying up the loose ends, But oh well.

A couple of thoughts

- Varga, Mr Wrench and Nikki were the MVP's

- Poor Sy

- The desolate highway scene was eery as hell, had some great shots in that scene.

-I feel that Nikki's death was kind of poetic, and was the result of her pursuing the wrong evil and ultimately paying for it. She was supposed to finish Varga but went after Emmit instead, and was going to kill an innocent man in the process. She veered off the wrong path in her pursuit for revenge.

- In the end Nikki did get a victory. It was her actions that lead to Wrench killing Emmit, and Gloria catching up to Varga.
