FX's FARGO Discussion Thread

I still think Lester will end up okay (alive and not arrested).

Isn't Lester the main character? I don't think he will die but there's no way he doesn't get in trouble.

Lester is so stupid. Last week, I figured he would do the smart and sensible thing and just walk back to his hotel room. But he does the complete opposite and talks to Malvo. Worst of all, he pesters him to the point Malvo had to blow his cover.

But it's also a badly-written excuse to advance the plot. What was Lester's motivation in trying to talk to Malvo. It just didn't make sense. Plus Malvo's impulsive action to blow his cover and kill his three friends was a bit flimsy and done more for the shock value. The situation was still easily salvageable.

Malvo's cover was pretty sweet. He had a hot girlfriend/wife, a high-paying job and a great house. He could have just retired from being a hitman and just lived off as a dentist.

Lester's true scumbag self shows up again. Felt bad for his sweet and naive wife.

Glad to see Molly finally got some validation and Bill embarrassed.

One more episode to go.

You know, Lester was on cloud 9 that night. He was remarried to a women who does nothing but appreciate him for him, he quit his job to become a business owner and not only that, but he succeeds beyond his wildest dreams. Not to mention that he fucked his bullies' horrid wife, fucked her over with insurance and got the last laugh by getting away with the most obvious murder ever. I can see him wanting some type of attention from Malvo. That was his night and Malvo is the only one who knows him for who he truly is. He did get lester into this. I mean, he set his own brother up, you kind of expect some type of reaction from the guy who got you into all of this. He had a moment of drunken courage that he just wasn't ready for. Last time in the emergency room, he didn't even have an answer for Malvo. This time in the elevator he grew balls and said yes, maybe to see just what would happen. That year that went by created a braver and bolder Lester. He just doesn't get that Malvo is a sociopath who just does things to fuck up the natural order. I think now he fully gets who Malvo is.

I don't find it that poorly written. Maybe that's too obvious? Or am I off? I'm not coming at you, either. Your opinion on tv/film is highly regarded in these parts.

Agree. I was half-expecting Lou to die right there when he continued digging around for info on Malvo.

I really think Malvo had something to do with Lou leaving the force. I really hope Lou and gus stick their heads Molly's business. They are the key to letting them know that Malvo is in Bemidji. They also are the only cop-ish guys who has really spoken to Malvo.

No problem at all. I figured also the reasons you mentioned was Lester's motivation in trying to talk to Malvo but it still wasn't a convincing one to me.

Yeah it also occurred to me that the 1979 case Lou was talking about was somehow related to Malvo. It would still fit if they based Malvo's age to Billy Bob Thornton's real age. Probably no relation. It's also kinda odd that the show once referred to Malvo's age as somewhat in his late 30's.

The fact there were two parking lots free wen they were having breakfast fucked me right up.

I kind of looked at it as he was feeling so full of himself. Stayed downstairs to try and hook up with that woman at the bar, then happens to see Malvo so he thought what the hell. It's like when he was in the elevator and said how old Lester was scared but new Lester wasn't going to be pushed around.

Anyway the show has been awesome, a couple slow spots here and there but overall very good.

I fucking hate being the guy that slagged off the last episode but every elevator. EVERY elevator would have fucking cameras.

so this being based on a true story is a complete bullshit?

btw series is awesome (lester keeps surprising me - man is awesome). my second favorite after vikings :)

Molly told Lester and Linda that the security camera media would be arriving shortly.

I got the same impression as you, Lester reborn had some courage in him and didn't realize how much of a sociopath Malvo really is.
I also got the feeling that blood was going to be spilled during that diner scene.

As for the last scene, maybe it is just me but I thought it was weird that Lester & his wife kept their passports at his business. To me that is odd.

Correct, it is not based on a true story.

Was SO fucking confused a couple episodes back when Key and Peele showed up. Thought I was watching a commercial or something and didnt realize it...weird ass choice to cast a duo that currently has a comedy show TOGETHER, but somehow it actually works.

Malvo's cover was pretty sweet. He had a hot girlfriend/wife, a high-paying job and a great house. He could have just retired from being a hitman and just lived off as a dentist.

I mean...Does Malvo really seem like the type to have even the absolute SLIGHTEST interest in any way shape or form in actually living that life?
