lee never achieved mount nor side control in any of the rounds, he got to half, and defended pretty well all attacks, he got close to being armbared in the second, also in the second he was getting Light up, took it to the ground and spent like 1 1/2 minutes in Charles half guard doing nothing but shoulder strikes. Under a grappling perspective, he would have not gotten the edge, under mma perspective, it depends, if some judge is giving more points for top position rather than being close to finish the fight, the I guess he could’ve have gotten round 2, round 1 was Charles and not just because of the grappling but for the striking part. Close fight, I would’ve probably guess it was 1-1 going to the third

11 years of grappling experience here, brown belt but have dropped the gi 5 years ago.

Imma have to disagree...Lee maintained a top position for the majority of the first round...landed shots here and there...reversed sweeps and ended the round on top...i say purely based on its MMA...he got outgrappled in a jiujitsu sense for sure...but none of those submissions in the first were close..attacking from the bottom isnt viewed the same as attacking from the top in MMA..but he (oliveira) likely could get the round for staying busy either way i think the first is a close round nd could go either way IMO...based on the rules of MMA judging.

Been training Japanese jiujitsu since 2005... Hold a blue belt, should be a brown belt but missed my last grading test due to having my first child( wife had it i was taking care of them both after) and couldn't make it

It looked like Oliveira won the round just because of how active he was off his back, but Lee did a lot that was ignored.

Anybody can hang. There's a lot of brilliant, thoughtful, balanced, objective people here who are capable of discussing things, even in disagreement without reverting to bitter, toxic 32 year old man children.

Top position while defending subs isn’t maintaining anything, it’s avoiding getting subbed, he got a good round ending, that was it.
