Media Francis Ngannou on Why he left the UFC

Bottom line, his legacy is toast whether you like Dana and the UFC or not. Who ever built a big name for themselves after leaving the UFC? Simply put, there is no Pride anymore, no real competition for the UFC. You’re either in the UFC or nobody cares.

He’s 1-1 against Stipe, never beat Jones and a lot of people would like to see that rematch against Gane. He just isn’t a big enough name to get big boxing matches on the level he thinks he can. Do you think Fury will fight him? Not a chance, most casual fans don’t even know who he is. PFL nor Bellator have a worthy opponent. Big mistake in my opinion. He’s not getting any younger. Waste
Not really because more promotions are popping up and the boxing model is about the fighters and not the promotion. Lots of fighters are now getting a lot of attention fighting in new promotions, with the right people putting focus on other mma promotions besides UFC, eventually it will be similar to boxing's current model of focusing on the fighter and not so much the promotion. Boxing has multiple promotions and multiple stars from each promotion. Things will be similar with mma, especially if you have high profile fighters involved that will bring the attention and the casual fans along with them.

I'm just happy for the first time in history, someone actually finished their contract as champion and got away without the UFC embarrassing them.

Francis is right. If he's a independent contractor, that means he fights for the UFC, BUT that also means he should be able to box, kickbox, wrestle, get sponsorship deals, etc. If you are plumber contractor, you are obligated to do jobs for the company you work for. But, you can also take jobs on the side or even do other handyman jobs. You aren't exclusive to that company. That would make you...an employee.

If he was an employee, he'd get health insurance, benefits, a 401k, etc. That's the point he's trying to make. If he's a contractor, treat him as such. If you want him as an exclusive talent, he needs to be an employee. I 100% respect Frank in stating the obvious and at least trying to get it done.

Wrong. He can make more money or similar to his UFC contract. Boxing will be able to offer more than his whole UFC contract with just one fight while being the B-Side. PFL just signed Jake Paul and has him working with the PPV version of PFL. If they can afford Jake Paul, that means they can pay equal to or higher than UFC.

Ok , so will he become a freakshow fighter or something? Everyone thinks he'll strap on the 10 once gloves and make massive money...don't count on it, Fury is busy this year and other top contenders arnt going to have an exhibition match in a no win situation when they are fighting for rankings and titles. Frank is not Conor, people need to realize that.

I guess he could go to Bellator and fight Bader that would be a huge draw right? Or PFL HW champ who ever that is...

You should be Frank’s Shidoshi. Good take.

Nganou will be fighting cans in Bellator or PFL and will not get a sniff at boxing.

This is fucking AWESOME. Dana is a massive POS, and he’s finally losing a fighter who is the current champ!!! Amazing!!

I’m so happy for Ngannou. He told the UFC to go fuck themselves and he’s still the most dangerous and easily the best HW in the world.

It's no secret Dana and the Fertitta's (and successors) made billions using adhesion contracts and targeting "gaming commissions" that needed business. Ngannou is just the latest casualty of this farce of a business model.

I wish him the best and respect that he stood his ground against the ufc and hope he makes bank but as a fan it sucks to lose the hw champ in his prime. So many interesting fights that won't happen now.

Seems likely that the sticking point for Francis was the ability to takes fights like the Fury fight or having to sign a 6 - 8 fight contract.

Randy Couture, Jen Pulver. Maybe not as long as a winning streak but still left as champ. There are more. Here is a better question, who has ever held up a UFC title or left the UFC and got their way in the end? Nobody is the answer.
Couture, like GSP spent half a million fighting the UFC in court because they alleged he was still belonging to them.

Ngannou is an unrestricted free agent, that's the big difference. He is the first champ to get out of his contract.

Highest paid heavyweight but no health insurance? Why is the UFC so cheap?

a lot of fighters were mentioning that for quite some time now... not sure what to make out of it...
also you know UFC just recently tried to sign with robocop Soldic, but he rejected the offer and went to One ...so

Dana shoots himself in the foot in claiming that Ngannou missed the opportunity to be "the highest paid HW in UFC history".
Because it basically means that other orgs can now pay better money than UFC's maximum...

Nah Francis has turned down millions from UFC, PFL might offer half what UFC did but will let him box on the side.

As usual a clickbait title for a YouTube video.

There's no statement of Francis saying why he left, but only a clip of a interview made months ago with Ariel on topics that he was unhappy with and were being disputed during his negotiation.

wa heyyyyy here is NO CLIFFS wooooooooooooo

I think it also means that Jon Jones will become the highest paid heavyweight in UFC history.. Win or lose.

His opponent Gane ? Prolly getting whatever his contract states for headlining an event as a non-champion.

Business as usual.
