Media Francis Ngannou on Why he left the UFC

Is is great for the sport, though?

If a HW champ with a great backstory, a guy that was finishing people like we’ve never seen before, can’t get favorable terms, why would any great athlete that can compete at HW consider joining the UFC?

This feels like a step backwards for a division that has always struggled to attract talented athletes IMO.
It’s certainly great in the sense that more fighters will try fight the pos monopolist. See these suckers aren’t willing to make any changes. Peanuts pay, shady negotiation tactics, favoritism, no sponsors for the fighters… it’s slavery. Unless more fighters come out and fight for their rights.

Francis is a pioneer.

How many have said no to the UFC during their peak?

What a man.

And brilliant assessment. If he's an independent contractor with nothing guaranteed, including health insurance, then treat him as such when he wants to independently step away for big money boxing.

UFC dropped a huge ball on this. Absolutely sickening!

Well that's just it, and when will Fury fight him? might not be for a while if he's tied up with other fights so what will Frank do in the mean time?
Right. I hope that he had a coherent and realistic plan for what he would do if he walked away without a deal with the UFC. Francis has good leverage for other negotiations given he will be able to claim he is the HW world champion until he actually loses an MMA fight, which is obviously less likely outside the UFC.

Whether he could actually get a Fury fight seems to be the real question. I don't see Jake Paul being foolish enough to take Francis on under ANY rules, so that one isn't likely.

Not sure about that, we'll see how the Francis drama plays out, sure he has options but are they better then what he had in the UCF?

Ngannou is a Max Holloway draw at best, him vs Gane did like 300k buys. Paying him multi million per fight is already too generous and more than what he deserves.

And which promotion would actually want to sign Ngannou? Firstly I am not sure there's a promotion which has a stable of HWs that can lead to interesting fights with Ngannou, so why would they invest big money to feed him cans? Secondly I am not sure why the promotion will allow Ngannou to box, when him getting destroyed in boxing (which is a forgone conclusion) basically tanks his value.

The second part is a big reason the UFC didn't go for it. Also why they said they're done. They already offered him more than he's worth to them and he was still asking for more.

It is a gamble. Francis loses outside of the UFC then he is pretty much toast all across the board. If he can keep winning then it doesn’t matter if his legacy isn’t great. He will make more money.

His legacy is he will make more money in 1 boxing match than his whole ufc career combined. His isn’t young and he is a prizefighter so might as well fight for the biggest prize. Caring about what fans think is for fools

I doubt he makes that much boxing. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Who ever left the UFC with the belt and a big winning streak? There is no precedent.
GSP wanted to but was locked in a contract.
Randy Couture, Jen Pulver. Maybe not as long as a winning streak but still left as champ. There are more. Here is a better question, who has ever held up a UFC title or left the UFC and got their way in the end? Nobody is the answer.

And Dana White again killing another super fight in his long legacy ruining super fights

Bald goof

Where Fedor when you need him?!

Fedor vs Ngannou book it!

UFC shits on its own fighters to low ball them, if they actually built Ngannou he would be a huge draw.

UFC cares about the brand and not the fights, its about selling ppv with weak cards week in week out

Any company that operates independent contractors are scamming the system and their workers.

They always want to blur the line between employee amd contractor, trying to utilize the best options from each, and play games with the contracts. Cheap fucking cunts.

The UFC are the B leagues anyway. Strikeforce and WEC already proved that, Francis will have bigger challenges now

Interested to see what Francis does. He sure thinks he can make a lot more than what the UFC had offered.

I am thinking he does a boxing match first to capitalize on his fame for multi-millions. Depending on how that turns out, he could literally retire comfortably after that or continue his career.

Dana shoots himself in the foot in claiming that Ngannou missed the opportunity to be "the highest paid HW in UFC history".
Because it basically means that other orgs can now pay better money than UFC's maximum...
Good god, you are dumb as shit

No one is going to offer more money. But will llkely have more freedom.
Wrong. He can make more money or similar to his UFC contract. Boxing will be able to offer more than his whole UFC contract with just one fight while being the B-Side. PFL just signed Jake Paul and has him working with the PPV version of PFL. If they can afford Jake Paul, that means they can pay equal to or higher than UFC.
