It's both of them. Jones wasn't keen to fighting Frank without a big paycheck but he was willing to do it if they gave him super fight money. Big Frank didn't want to take a paycut afterwards in case he lost to Jones. The UFC created a situation where Francis had to win or else it would be terrible for the rest of his career. Francis already beat the odds by winning against Gane. He wasn't going to stay on top for a long time.

Whatever happens to Francis he'll be fine. The guy looks happy. He knows what it is to struggle in life. The man made enough money in his career that I'm sure he can retire relatively comfortable.

Maybe. Probably even. If so, I would guess that this is the MMA side of his deal, which will carry him until one of 2-3 HWs are available for a pure money fight. If the rumors of PFL buying Bellator are real, then this all makes more sense.

If you are PFL, and you're doing a serious investment round, then signing the best HW free agent, and then surrounding that attraction with the best roster outside of the UFC seems the obvious way to go. It is risky, but it is really the only hope you have of rising to the level of at least a Strikeforce.

My best guess would be that if this is real, it will be an extremely lucrative offer for Francis, and also allow him to box.

PFL uses this as proof that they are serious about enacting certain acquisition plans. Investors talk to the different parties about ideas from, absorption of Bellator(more likely), to some kind of structured co-promotion deal to bolster both promotions(much less likely).

Honestly, as long as we can see fighters out there getting what they want, I'll be happy about the deal.

Yeah these are the situations where people call ducking. But these guys want to get paid. Inflation is up, who can blame em. Hindsight being 20/20, I bet the ufc wishes they'd tried harder to book it before Francis left.

Just like when Anderson vs Gsp used to come up. GSP used to sound a lot like how Jones did about moving to hw. Gee I dunno why I should... I'm doing good where I'm at and focusing on that. What's in it for me to move up, am I going to get paid more? And all Dana did was talk about Gsp not wanting the fight. I bet he didn't want to take that fight for his normal rate lol. He's not an idiot.

STILL, so many sherdoggers...

I mean I think we all want best for big Frank, i dont wanna see him loose money,or end up broke..... but the decisions he is making are strange, we the fans/sherdog are simply frustrating.
We could watch Frank fight jon, pav, tom , but no, lets have this stupid shit role out.

I don't want to derail the thread but why am I reading this phrase non-stop lately ? I'm not talking about the "fumble" part which has been used, even untranslated, in French, for decades in TRPGs (interchangeably with critical miss) and was thus one of the first English words my young self learnt, but only very lately saw the addiction of the bag. What am I missing ?
The Bag.

The bag full of Money.

Securing the Bag means ensuring your future financially. Fumbling, the opposite.

Shills and pure haters keep bringing up the 8 mill and the three fights contract stuff, but it’s definitely more complicated than that.
All good though, f*** ‘em.

Who cares. Ngannou won't be fighting anyone relevant in MMA at PFL, assuming he goes there.

Don't let all this nonsense distract you from the fact that Jon Jones waited 3 years to return just to avoid fighting Francis, the moment he left Jon was back and willing to fight anyone BUT Francis for the belt. And now the moment Ngannou is tied up in negotiations with PFL, Jones says him name knowing the fight can't happen now and he's safe. Jones is guilty here of perhaps the biggest duck of all time in MMA history, in terms of avoiding the fight fans wanted to see.

Quietus... just be quiet.

Jake Paul va Nate Diaz will bring eyeballs to the PFL. Ngannou will bring credibility and curious viewers. People will watch just to see how Francis will do. The PFL can then claim they have the baddest man on the planet in front of a huge audience.

For the people saying Francis isn’t a draw, how many PPVs did Mike Perry and Rockhold bring to the UFC? What about Chad Mendes or Eddie Alverez? Ben Rothwell? And yet the BKFC was much more hyped than the UFC this last weekend.

Being a draw is bringing in PPV numbers, otherwise how can you be considered a draw?

Also, going to be very hard for any promotion to to promote his fight without any film to promote with. It's going to be an uphill battle to get eyes on him, besides the hardcores anyways.

It's not only that. His pay would have been based on PPV points. The Jones fight would have been a career high point, and his next fights would have been less payment.
If he won, his popularity would have increased multiple fold and I feel a rematch would ve been on the cards.
More popularity, more PPV buys equals more money.
Also, wasn't this 8 mill guaranteed pay and not including PPV points?

He will bring in curiosity. Viewership is another question. Viewership requires response to a call-to-action. He will get eyes on the product's social media content and get discussion going. Whoever signs him will then need to really line things up for a card worth tuning into, and firmly make their case as to why it isn't a waste of their time/money beyond the Ngannou attraction.

He's what a good promoter can use, but it doesn't get the job done without a ton of work

Franics never really did great promoting his own fights in UFC with a huge audience, hope he does a better job within a promotion with less eyes on it.

We're all talking shit. But pfl will probably pay Nganou lots of money. In any case he will be set for life if he doesn't go Mike Tyson

He is not a draw at all, and never has been. As for most dominant, no.. he has 1 title defense lol, come back to me when he has 12+ title defenses. Even that 1 title defense was touch and go, if Gane doesn't go for that leg lock and get stuck on bottom I think he wins a 3-2 decision. Francis couldn't beat Lewis either, lost a 30-27, and is 1-1 with Stipe.
