Forrest Griffin is criminally underrated

He was a bad match-up for Chuck, but Wand and Shogun were bad match-ups for him...along with Forrest, Rashad, Jones and others in the UFC. The idea that he had some nearly unbeatable "prime" is a myth. He was a very good but flawed fighter in both Pride and the UFC.

I wouldn't say Wand and Shogun were bad matchups. Its just they were more talented... it happens. I mean Page was essentially pretty much just a very scary boxer and Wand and Shogun still just fought him probably exactly where his wheel house is.

I don't think Page was ever overrated. He was known as very very good. I don't know where you got that anyone ever thought he was unbeatable.

I've seen several people here claim that he had some sort of "unbeatable" period when he first came to the UFC.

lol Rampage lost because he cant block a kick to save his life and forgot Forrest has some of the hardest low kicks I've seen.
nice try. But no. Rampage had every chance to counter and held back. Watch the fight again. He literally didn't retry to hurt Forrest.this is my opinion if you think its stupid ill be okay to live with that

He’s the only fighter left from pre WME that still holds a job at UFC because he works hard. Good for him!

Meh, he’s the 205 Bisping, beat a broken down Shogun, and got a gift decision over Rampage, right place right time.

Nothing against the guy, but nah let’s not pretend he was some exceptional fighter.

Naw, he's not underrated at all. He's perfectly scouted for what he is

No.

About 95% of Forrest's career consisted in gatekeeping. He was never among the best in the division except for a very brief period of time. He was basicly only relevant in 3 fights: against Shogun, who was making his UFC debut and fought injured, against Rampage (very close fight) and against Rashad, who destroyed him.

Then he got destroyed by Anderson Silva (expected) and was never close to being a contender again. Fought Tito for the umpteenth time, got destroyed by Shogun in the rematch, beat an old Franklin and then reitred.

If anything Forrest is overrated around here because people pretend he was an elite fighter. He wasn't. He was a mid tier fighter who managed to get a couple of good wins. Elite fighters are time proven and for the large majority of his career, Forrest wasn't one of the best, nor even close to it.

He's basicly a one hit wonder.

I don’t want to shit on the guy, but you speak the truth. Forrest was very good for a very short time.

He had two of the biggest back-to-back upsets in the history of the sport against Shogun and Rampage... but that's all he ever did.

No, Shogun was not at the top of his game. He fought injured (had ACL surgery after the fight) and gassed inside 2 rounds (Shogun was known for having great cardio).

When Shogun was in better shape this happened:

Why does he always get KO'd in such funny ways? His arms just straight up flopping infront of him

At least Bisping Ktfod the champ, and on short notice.

Forrest legit robbed Rampage of his belt.

He was 12-1 in his last 13 fights before his UFC debut, only losing by breaking his arm against Coleman, which isn't really a loss.

In his next 4 fights he knocked out Coleman and Chuck then lost a decision that most people thought he won, got his rematch and took the belt from Machida, who was undefeated at that time.

He was at the top of his game, dude.

Nah. His knee problems were well known. It was discussed at nauseam in these forums.

He's the most overrated. And fyi rampage threw the title fight so he could go to Hollywood. Watch the post fight, he didn't even care about the loss, every time Forrest threw anything rampage looked like he could've ended him. UFC got their Cinderella story and rampage went to Hollywood. Win/win. If ppl don't think this is possible, all I've gotta say is keep drinking the koolaid. UFC is just as corrupt as boxing deal with it
Is that why Rampage freaked out a few days after the fight and went on a real mental Rampage? You're probably too young to remember, so never mind.

Here he is again doing the same thing, I'm just in my own world don't mind me guys

Once again, Claude educating fools.

First Shogun fight was irrelevant because Shogun thought he could get past below-average Forrest with one leg. Rematch showed everyone what was up.

Rampage fight was odd and could have gone either way and Rampage may have been high at the time.

Forrest got mauled by Keith Sardine FFS!!

He has some of the funniest losses of all time so I'll give him that. Was never a fan but he's paid his dues.

If a guy who spent a respectable chunk of his career in the top ten isn’t elite though, who is?

I love Forrest, in and and out of the cage.

It's the stories in MMA that make the fighters so fascinating in addition to the technical skills for me personally.

I look back on 08-12 with such fond nastalgia, such interesting personalities and in all divisions.

Btw check out his first book "got fight" if your a fan of his or MMA in general, fun fucking book.

Forrest was as tough as they come, skills were questionable at an elite level...the only thing that made him temporarily successful were his iron balls and his grit and determination.
