He came second in all-time votes because of a strong voter base + republican voter base. Since then he's been crying foul on election fraud, was an instrumental part of the Jan 6th attempt to overthrow the election results, and is the subject of many other federal investigations. His base is still with him as they always will be. Many other Republicans voters are tired of him and want him to just leave. I don't see how anyone can argue the position that he's actually more popular now than he was before November 2020.

And that's somehow gonna change if he's the nominee for the GOP, how? What exactly are you expecting moderate Republicans to do if he's the choice over Biden(or whoever)? Like 20 or so million republicans are just not gonna vote, or vote for...a Dem?

What I could see happening is low voter turnout in 2024 if voters don't feel comfortable with Biden's handling of the economy. Trump's base will show up no matter what. But I really think there are too many people who flat out don't want Trump in office

I can see more Republican voters flip to Dem for this election then the opposite. That, or they just won't vote at all.

Some in the middle might go for trunk because inflation , prices of good and all that . Blame Biden or not the average voter sees their surroundings and want change

Years and years of "Trump committed treason!" and "Trump cheated on his taxes!" and "Trump stole documents!" and "Trump started an insurrection!", and all they can come up with is Trump may have temporarily used to minimal campaign funds to make a lying whore go away...
