Do you want to leave the city life at some point and live far away from people, if you could?

Or do you like living in the city?

If you dont, what is stopping you?

If money was no object would you leave?

older i get the further i want to be from people. i’m looking at 4-5 acres and a smaller house this year. currently in an upper middle class neighborhood now. small yard, big house, community pool playground etc…

If I was younger I’d go back to city life there’s no reason to live there full time anymore , I lived in both .

It’s easier for me though since I have vast connections and have extensive family in the NYC area , I reside on 50 acres so there’s not much choice or comparison , living in a small apartment or living on much more isolated area where I don’t have to deal with anyone .

I’m less then 2 hrs away from the city , in fact I’m closer to NJ borderline and P.A ( I also lived there in community on 2 acres growing up in school yrs ) . I’m upstate NY so I have access to 3 states .

I’ll probably go to NYC for New Year’s but I’m undecided.

I recently moved out of a small city to a small enclave of homes out in the country. Mine is on about an acre and a half. Its wonderful.

I hate cities. When people tell me they want to go to New York my brain hears "I want to go to hell"

That being said, I don't want to be too far from the conveniences of a decent sized town either.

My rule is, find a town that's just barely big enough to have a Costco, then get a house on the outskirts, maybe 20-30 minutes from the hustle and bustle.

Blue Ridge Mountains is the life for me. City seems to be full of disease and the mentally ill. Sure it's fun for the novelty when younger but not a good idea long term. You'll end of dead or worse, Woody Allen.

I live remote in the nature. On a hill close to the forest and the mountains.

But if we want city life, the closest city is a little less then one hour away.

IMO thats way better then the other way around.. Living in the city and having to drive hours to get a nature experience.

City life 100%

Way more to do, more variety in what to eat, far more interesting people.

The crime and all the other negatives of city life only affect if you A) live in the miserably poor areas themselves, or B) are addicted to rage baiting social media that pumps out videos of every single bad behavior in the entire country.

City by far

Grew up rural and they are not fun villages here but more like in wind river or winters bone

I grew up in the country until I was 16, then moved to a big city. I lived in the big city until I was 28 then moved back to a rural area.

I think when I was young and poor it was better to live in the city because I could get around by walking, biking, or riding a buss. I didn't like the crime, the crowds, the just way too much noise and light. Didn't like that once I made enough to own a car that driving it was damn near useless due to traffic. But in cities they have everything. It's where all the entertainment and shopping is in most states.

But given I'm a more outdoorsy person and sick of dealing with degenerates every day I moved back to the country. Not that there aren't degenerates in the country but there are fewer of them and they're easier to avoid.

I like living in a city. But it’s not like I would be against living out in the country.

The only issue for me would be internet. I need to be able to download games on my Xbox. But my wife and I have discussed just moving out into some isolated cabin like the Unibomber, minus the terrorism, and just kicking back.

That makes it a bit hard to see family though. I don’t like to travel much. And they would all be back here.

Honestly, if there’s enough alcohol around I can live anywhere.

I just finished shoveling snow. As I grow older, I see the appeal of living right in the middle of downtown in a big city, a place where I can go from my front door to shopping and leisure activities without having to go outside.

I grew up in a small village in the Yorkshire countryside.

Spent my 20s living in the city, and now in my 30s out to suburbs.

Got a nice park and hiking trails right on my doorstep but I can also walk to the supermarket, some cafes, bars and restaurants and it's only 20 minutes into the city.

I couldn't be completely isolated where you gotta drive an hour to pick up some milk.
