What do you prefer?

Do you want to leave the city life at some point and live far away from people, if you could?

Or do you like living in the city?

If you dont, what is stopping you?

If money was no object would you leave?

yes, i'd leave, said it many times. the city is awful and has just gotten worse and worse. I want nothing to do with it really. I have my tribal homeland I could go to but nothing but stupidity is there.

I grew up in a small village in the Yorkshire countryside.

Spent my 20s living in the city, and now in my 30s out to suburbs.

Got a nice park and hiking trails right on my doorstep but I can also walk to the supermarket, some cafes, bars and restaurants and it's only 20 minutes into the city.

I couldn't be completely isolated where you gotta drive an hour to pick up some milk.
Pick up your milk with everything else when you go to town. Just kidding, I know what you mean, that kind of thing always reminds me of my uncle in alaska who sent me and my bro to the fair and we missed the last bus and had to call him to pick us up. He was goddamning on the phone because I think it was about a fifty mile drive, or at least seemed like that. They had a house on a river, it was idyllic but I don't think they always loved that drive.

I grew up in the country until I was 16, then moved to a big city. I lived in the big city until I was 28 then moved back to a rural area.

I think when I was young and poor it was better to live in the city because I could get around by walking, biking, or riding a buss. I didn't like the crime, the crowds, the just way too much noise and light. Didn't like that once I made enough to own a car that driving it was damn near useless due to traffic. But in cities they have everything. It's where all the entertainment and shopping is in most states.

But given I'm a more outdoorsy person and sick of dealing with degenerates every day I moved back to the country. Not that there aren't degenerates in the country but there are fewer of them and they're easier to avoid.
Yup, I have a cousin who came to seattle, she's basically from the backwoods of alaska and she said, "i'd forgotten how much I missed Seattle" I asked my brother, "is she retarded?" This place is hell on earth.

Came to post Glenn Frey. Since that's been taken care of, I'll leave you with some words from the master.

"Wherever you go, there you are."

I enjoy a mix of both. City life with optional country side nearby.

Yeah I live in NYC too but I really want to get away (but not too far away) from the craziness now that im gettin up there in age.
Nj is a great alternative to ny sprawl. If you can get over being a part of the joke that is. But the time may have passed to get an affordable place. My house almost tripled in value over the last 10 years. I'm half way between NYC and Philadelphia

I'm probably buying a house in the forest near reno NV it is a lot cheaper than where I live and I am sick of the ghetto shenanigans of L.A county like the ghetto bird hovering for 30 mins and shining a light into my house.

Those new mexico homes in the middle of nowhere also interest me they survive on solar power iirc.

I'm on the verge of the outskirts. Still in the city, on a street with a mall at the end and an upscale coffee/restaurants area on the other end. A mile away from open roads and dirt tracks for proper running/cycling stuff. Just perfect for me.

I live in the suburbs of a small to medium sized city (450k) on a large block with a large house in a super quiet street.

I have access to infrastructure and other benefits of a city while having the quiet as well. I'd say that's about as close to the best of both world as you are likely to get.

lived in a major city for many years. cool/fun at first. then slowly turned to total shit. over priced, shit everywhere, over crowded, charms/old spots gone, lost its luster for sure.

looking for a spot with 4-5 acres, house, WIFI. i want fresh air, peace and quiet. nature scenery.

I live remote in the nature. On a hill close to the forest and the mountains.

But if we want city life, the closest city is a little less then one hour away.

IMO thats way better then the other way around.. Living in the city and having to drive hours to get a nature experience.
That is a very good option. Somewhat secluded, but the city is right there if you need it.

The only thing I missed about Hounslow was having the London Underground within walking distance.

Truth be told, it's pretty much a grass is greener scenario for me. Yeah, cities are dirty and people can be rude in them, but things also happen in them. I spent a week in Tintagel however, and whilst the area had some beautiful beaches and coastal walks, the village was so underwhelming that I couldn't wait to leave after a few days.

Now that I’m retired in the countryside, you couldn’t pay me enough to move back to a city.
