For those that say Fedor was a can crusher :

I watched an elite fighter get rekt by one.

Oh, and then this one too...

Shit happens. It's almost like anything can happen when you step the cage.
Say, like, this?

Bigfoot wasn't a can when he could take his TRT.

Struve wasn't a can. He is more of a journeyman like Matt Brown.

Nate isn't a can. He's actually a tough fight for anyone he faces.

Fujita is a can.

You tried though. I'll give you credit for that.

If Fedor can crush cans to achieve greatness, Then Mighty mouse will soon be GOAT

At least he beat his cans unlike Anderson

Fedor is a great HW, perhaps the greatest. That said, his record is padded with bums.

Not much point arguing with hardcore Fedor fans, most of em write of his losses as Fedor just being past his prime. They are delusional or in denial, take your pick.

Fujita beat Mark Kerr, who at the time was destroying everyone. He had only lost to Coleman (a UFC HOFer) and CroCop twice... in his first ten fights. In comparison, Struve fought... Junior Dos Santos in his 19th fight. Had he been fighting equivalent competition to Fujita, he'd be fighting bums in a barn in Iowa by now. Struve is a can in today's era UFC, Fujita was clearly not. You tried though.

Nate is a journeyman, and a tough fight for anyone he faces. Conor was in GOAT talks when he fought him the first time and lost.
Never said Nate was a can, I said "it's almost like anything can happen when you get in a cage", like a journeyman could walk off a beach in Mexico and destroy a champion with little to no preparation. Fedor got caught by a huge punch, and won the fight, just like he got slammed into next week and still tapped Randleman. Shit happens, and the greats find a way to win.

Your thread doesn't change that fact that Fedor's a

Newbs confirmed.

He wasn't very good. Certainly nobody to brag about beating.

He was an 11:1 underdog, and the commentary team was literally joking about how fast they thought the fight was going to be, and about how the touch of gloves was the only punch Fujita would land all night.

Anybody who tries to retroactively come back and say that was a win over a good opponent is simply lying and trying to re-write history. It was a complete squash match and rightfully treated as so. Kudos to Fedor for surviving getting hurt, but he was completely expected to crush Fujita, so much so that again, the commentary team was literally joking about how poor the matchup was.

Fedor a can crusher? When Prime was the shit to watch? The guy who climbed on Hong man choi arm for the most epic looking armbar? The Rubber man that survived a suplex that could have paralyzed any other average person? The guy who survived getting orbital cannoned by Fujita in the face and recovered in a split second? Fucking hell! Not to mention all the top heavies on that era...

Inb4 in 10 years ppl say Jon "Ped Eye Poker" Jones fought only handicapped people or Ronda "Mentally instable" fighting only handpicked noobs.

If you must include GSP, Jon Jones and Anderson Silva in the GOAT discussion with Fedor, you will have to address the fact that ALL THREE OF THEM cut weight to duck better and stronger competition. Fedor ducked no one. There will be those who say he "ducked the UFC" but if you look at the fact that, not including the last two years, the UFC had not paid out any fighter more than a million dollars, why would Fedor EVER fight in the UFC if he was making millions per fight in other organizations. If Dana truly wanted to see how great Fedor was or wasn't, he could have put up any of his Heavyweight Champions in a fight like he did with Chuck Lidell. My opinion is that, because Lidell got smashed in Pride and came back to the UFC and became champion, most fight enthusiasts know that Dana would never want to put a black eye on his organization again. So you just wait it out, Fedor, as all champions, would eventually lose and then you can claim you offered all kinds of money and he wouldn't accept and that all he ever fought were cans. Dana, to UFC fans, is like Jon Jones and the bible: they just pick and choose which lines they want to believe.

You want to be considered the greatest of all time? Duck no one.

Fedor is the GOAT for now but honestly I think Conor could eclipse him in the next few years. As much as I despise his idiot fans he really is a great in his own way. Excellent sniper. Excellent with distance.

He beat every top HW of his time...And some cans.

Are there even any cans in MMA? I thought one of the biggest pros about the sport was how every fighter has a realistic chance at winning.

People are just dumb. After Fedor became PRIDE champion he fought mostly top contenders. People just call them cans because they don't know them and are unwilling to educate themselves. Fedor's title reign competition was very similar to Anderson Silva's "greatest championship reign ever".

Fedor's Reign(7yrs 3mo):
Fights - 20 (19-0(1NC))
Title Fights - 8 (7-0(1NC))
Finishes - 16
NR Opponents - 4
Top 15 Opponents - 16(15 HW)
Top 10 Opponents - 12(11 HW)
Top 5 Opponents - 9(8 HW)

Silva's Reign(6yrs 9mo):
Fights - 15 (15-0)
Title Fights - 12 (12-0)
Finishes - 13
NR Opponents - 2
Top 15 Opponents - 13(12 MW)
Top 10 Opponents - 11(10 MW)
Top 5 Opponents - 7(6 MW)

If Fedor defended everytime he fought a top 15 HW like Silva, he would have had 12 title defenses. Silva also gets major props for beating NR and overmatched Irvin and Bonnar(who aren't actually bigger than him) because they're LHW, but Fedor beats overmatched guys who are 100+lbs bigger than him and they are cans. Then people call Lindland a can because he was a MW(#2 MW and top 10 P4P), but are okay with 2 of Jones title defenses being against MWs or GSP fighting BJ Penn. Again, people are just dumb.
“Top ten” fighters in pride were garbage doesn’t mean anything.

Is Derrick lewis a can? thats the calibur of opponent a guy like Fujita was. A guy that will probably never be champ but danergous enough to end anyones night. Same with Roy Nelson. Discounting those wins off of anyones resume is ridiculous.
Yep. And we have guys like Anthony Smith, Lewis, and ancient-ass Overeem getting title shots, and Khabib is champ while people talking about old-school fighters being one-dimensional.
