Even when Strickland was champ most people didn’t see him as the best, when Fluffy smashes him this weekend it will confirm people’s belief that he was never that good, or perhaps to a few that he’s simply fallen off.
No Fluffy is just that good.
I favor Fluffy but I'm not confident -- I'm not sure that he's very healthy coming into this fight. I hope we get him at a reasonable level of his potential.

Fluffy is the only one at MW I can think of right now that is a real test before Khamzat. Anyone who gets a titleshot before matching up with a grueling wrestler basically might as well be a kickboxer crossing over to MMA. Even Imavov has only defended takedowns from Caio, Izzy, Allen, Cannonier, Dolidze, Strickland, Buckley, Shahbazyan, Heinisch, Hawes, and Williams since joining the UFC. I get you can only fight who you can, but Fluffy is the only real test right now.

Since winning the belt in 2023, Strickland has only fought 2 fighters in 3 fights. He manages to make every fight a close decision because of his defensive style, but I really hope he loses and gets sent down the rankings to become active again. Fluffy's cardio draining style is great for the division, and someone like him should keep all the contenders in check before the title shot.

I don't know if we are going to see Strickland fighting differently in a non-safe way.

It looks like he is here for a long time and not for a good time.

I mean, to collect the most number of paychecks with the least damage possible.

idk on the one hand strickland tends to get worn out by pressure and physicality. fluffy isnt super strong but he has infinite cardio and will not stop coming and trying to grind strickland down. i can see fluffy dominating the fight. but i can also see a world where fluffy cant land clean on strickland and Strickland just uses his fantastic defensive wrestling to break the bodylock and get away every time while jabbing him up to a unanimous decision. however i think the first is more likely

It’s definitely going to be interesting I think that Strickland is really good at staying off his back and great cardio so it is a really big challenge for Fluffy. Which will either lead to him hitting a wall. Succeeding. Or far exceeding the challenge.

Fair enough. Fluffy running over Sean I believe is less about Sean and more about Fluffy but if Sean beats Fluffy that might not be about Sean it might be about Fluffy.
But as you said Sean is the hardest stylistic match up for him. Fluffy beat Allen at his own game and he went on to beat De ridder, but maybe that’s just because Whitaker has fallen off. But with Sean holding a win over imobov and a split loss to du plessis Fluffy has done everything but crack the top. Hard to say he couldn’t already be considered good, most that can be said was that he wasn’t as good as people think, over rated, hype train.
Yea.. fluffy not having been tested by anyone before getting the Strickland fight makes it hard to really know how good he is and losing to Sean won't really tell us much either since Sean hasn't lost to anyone in recent years but DDP so Sean beating Fluffy doesn't necessarily mean fluffy wasn't any good. I guess people could say him beating Allen the way he did would prove how good fluffy is but Allen is an inconsistent fighter and not really an accurate measure of skill imo. One minute Allen is about to lose to Chris Curtis, the next he's running over RDR.
