Media Ali on why RDR is taking the Fluffy fight

"I talked to the UFC. If Khamzat would've fought in October, it would have been Reinier de Ridder to fight him. But Khamzat is, you know, they said he is
gonna fight next year. So they offer Fluffy, De Ridder said 'you know what? I'm not gonna wait. I've wasted a lot of time in ONE FC, I wanna keep going now
making money and making improvements'. And I said to him 'I'm the best, and I get the best out of me when you keep me active' so he's taking that fight.
Now he's gonna fight a very tough guy in Fluffy, and I think he's got all the tools to beat him. I think his grappling is on a different level, I think his size and
knees is like, he has too many weapons. But also, Fluffy is really good and I'm not taking anything away from him. It's gonna be a very interesting fight for
the fan."

The great Ali

Khamzat fighting once a year confirmed
That's one of the things that rubs me the wrong way about Khamzat. He calls publicly for another fight at UFC 321, but then privately he clearly told whoever that he won't fight until next year.

Yeah, so Dricus has a reason to not fight for the rest of the year as he needs to work on his wrestling. Now, we find out Khamzat is also not going to fight until next year and not defend the belt?

RDR becoming a fan favorite pretty quick. Gotta love guys who want to compete and are confident.

You're just assuming. You have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. For all you know Khamzat did push to fight again in Oct and UFC said no because they absolutely want Tom and Gane headlining that event.

I'm assuming by interpreting his actions.

This is how unfounded gossip starts. Just wait for it until Khamzat´s next interview he will likely push back on this.

Imho the UFC wants Khamzat for the CBS deal fight. Probably in January he could headline an Abu Dhabi card

What happened? I thought Khamzat said smash in October. You telling me someone who barely fights is waiting until next year?

RDR vs Fluffy is a great fight.
I tried to warn people that Khamzat will fight once a year AT MOST. Don’t be surprised if we don’t see Khamzat until July/August next year.

Am I missing something? When did Khamzat ever come out publicly clearly stating he changed his mind about fighting again in Oct or that he declined an offer?

Finally a intriguing fight. I know their styles. Love watching when I understand what their strengths are. I also feel RDR actually needs this fight to really be fighting Khamzat. Split vs Robert doesn´t scream - give him Khamzat.

Probably the most logical take

They're saving khazmat for a bigger card

They already have an Abu Dhabi card for October and will be in Qatar in November.

Keep in mind that RDR will have fought as many times this year as Khamzat has in the last 3.

“Fluffy’s” win column consists largely of beating Brendan Allen. RDR is going to roll him and then it’ll be Fluffy vs Allen 3 in the Apex.

People were saying the same shit about RDR less than a year ago and look at how that turned out. Fluffy's thin resume is by virtue of inactivity and him not really being given major opportunities until lately, not through any obvious lack of talent. Maybe he'll run into a brick wall and show his ceiling soon, maybe he won't.

I think it's a very compelling fight that both guys have great chances of winning.

I don’t know man… a champ wants to stay active and fight, and the UFC tells him to wait half a year? Like, ok fine if it’s because they’re lining up a massive fight. But waiting just for the sake of it, only to fight the same guy he wanted earlier? Makes no sense!

Why would the UFC do that? Especially the UFC, who usually strike while the iron is hot and ride momentum as long as possible. The only time I heard something similar was with Islame—he wanted to fight before summer and then again in Abu Dhabi, but allegedly the UFC told him not to fight until Abu Dhabi... that is such a fishy story!

It just doesn’t sound like the UFC at all, especially since no other champs seem to face that kind of restriction and/or issues to have their fights booked when they want!
