Five outdated burger chains attempting to make a comeback

Friendly's food always sucked. Bland as fuck with even more of a production line feel than McDonald's. We only went there as an excuse to get ice cream.

I didn’t even know what a Friendly’s was. Google searched it and it looks like a pass.

We’ve had some Krystal’s around here for a while, but they don’t look appealing so it’s always been a pass. Same with A&W.

Been to Steak ‘n Shake 3-4 times and it’s awful. Their shakes get a ton of praise, but they’re average.

Fuddruckers is alright. Been there 3-4 times. I do like the idea of them cooking my burger and then allowing me to build it myself at my preference.

You know what burger fast food restaurant is overrated? Culver’s. Been there a few times and always left disappointed. The burgers didn’t stand out and the shakes weren’t that good.

You know what place I enjoy, but don’t go to frequently? Freddy’s. Their burgers are good and their ice creams and shakes are really good. I haven’t been there in forever as they closed the one we used to go when we were around the area. There’s other ones here, but it’s a 20+ minute drive and it’s in the touristy areas, so we don’t frequent heading over there.

Friendly's and A&W were pretty solid back in the day (I'm talking mid 90's and prior). It was a sad day when the Friendly's and Newport Creameries started disappearing around here, but you could tell that in the few years prior they were both being mismanaged as their quality started to decline- likely due to cost cutting measures. Friendly's had these killer deep fried breaded homefries with their breakfasts and A&W had some pretty damn good onion rings.

Always liked A&W. They just have poor corporate marketing/commercialism. A&W should have never branded away from their classic look, that's A&W tradition.

They had a fascinating roof architecture. Why did it look like that?

I especially preferred the A&W bubble gum with the syrup in the center.

Used to grab a Mozza burger and onion rings at A&W every now and then. Good times.

Went to Fuddruckers a couple weeks ago and was extremely disappointed. Clearly it's under new ownership/management and they're cheaping out on ingredients now. That was always a huge part of the draw for me, good fresh ingredients. The meat tasted like that nasty 80/20 store brand tube meat and the onion rings were pathetic.

Awful Awfuls are the bomb.

About 20 years ago I got thrown out of a friendlys for being too high and reeking like weed. I just wanted a burger and a sundae.

I was hoping to see Roy Rogers on that list... :(

I was born and partially raised in MA. Haven’t been back since my childhood in ‘94.

I love fast food, as rarely as I eat it.

Of the ones listed
I've had a&W once, was good.

Any of these coming to the LA area?

fun fact... US and CAN A&W are completely separate corporations that have agreed to use the same name, but have no say over each other
As an American, I've NEVER seen an A&W outside of California. Before I went to CA for the first time, I only knew it as a soda brand, had no idea that they had restaurants. Then again, they have locations in states I've lived in, but not the region. They have 1 location in the state I live in now, but it's about 85 miles (137 km) away. A&W Canada is A LOT bigger. A&W has locations all over the US, but not too many outside of California and surrounding states.
