Fist fighting a mountain lion/cougar

Is it possible to fight and beat a mountain lion barehanded? Got into this debate at work. I say it is possible.

I know they're extremely fast and strong but if you had to face one down and knew it was going to pounce and tackle you, I'm pretty sure a straight right on its nose would be devastating, if you wound up Hendo style, combined with the forward momentum of the cat. Possibly stun him and lay viscous GnP or some pride style soccer kicks/stomps.

Now if the cat snuck up on you in the woods and tackled you from behind, it would most likely be a different story, but not impossible to escape the back mount. In a grappling situation I'm guessing grabbing the neck would be easy because there's a lot to grab onto. The claws would do some damage but if you have a strong grip you could put him to sleep.

What say you?

Damn. Now a lion I wouldn't want to tango with. Still possible to defeat them though, if you can stick your forearm down their throat.

The most terrifying animal in my mind to get attacked by would be a bear. I hate those fucking things. Can't think of one good thing to say about them.

At least if you lose to a feline, since they're natures perfect fighters/predators - they have a little honor about them. They'll kill you and put you out of your misery before they eat you.

I doubt it. If it really wanted you dead and you don't have a weapon you're fucked imo.

150-200+ lb, 7-8ft long animal that can run up to 50 mph and leap 15 feet high and 40 long...

It's much faster, stronger, has 5 weapons all with inch+ long things that will tear or puncture.

I'm not going to say impossible but if it really wanted you dead I think you'd end up that way.

They should really reintroduce Cougars to the north east. Nobody hunts around here and the deer population is out of control.

Plus the thought of hiking and seeing this beautiful creature gets my blood pumping.

It would be hard to watch that scene. People don't realize how dangerous bears are. It's amazing. I'd rather be around a wolf pack or a mountain filed with Cougars. At least my death would be fast.

I wonder if a cougar population would help put a little dent into the bear population ? Here in the north east the Bears are continuing to grow. I know some of the bear's young need to go.

realistic answer: they're not nearly as big as lions or tigers, if by chance you got your arms around the neck you could kill it via RNC.......however don't count on that happening before it tears you up and bites your throat and that's it.

Mountain Lions are ambush predators that don't like getting hurt. So generally if you can fight them off for the first initial attack they will flee .


An African Lion will kill you every time.

there is a story out there about a guy who killed a bear in hand to paw combat. im pretty sure he bits its face, ripped out its eye and then bit ITS jugglar. so im sure this is possible.

i also had this discussion about chimps. im sure if say a boxer, or someone who could punch really fuckin' hard. say a melvin manhoef or a rumble johnson. if a chimp went to attack, do you think if they landed a huge shot to the jaw of the ape do you think they could knock it out? or would the chimp just eat the shot, and proceed to rip off the faces of its enemy.
