Opinion First Thing: Trump says he is firing Fed governor Lisa Cook in escalating attack on bank’s independence

Sept 16 (Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court declined on Monday to allow Donald Trump to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook - the first time a president has pursued such action since the central bank's founding in 1913 - in the latest step in a legal battle that threatens the Fed's longstanding independence.

The decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit means that the administration only has hours to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court if it hopes to block Cook from attending the Fed's policy meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday where it is expected to cut U.S. interest rates to shore up a cooling labor market.

SC gonna allow it. They might try some awful contorted ruling that says ok but just THIS ONE PERSON and it will be completely fucking hideous. Handing Trump personal control of the Fed is a monumentally bad idea

The whole idea behind fed independence is to protect our monetary system from politicians trying to use it for political gain somehow and the independence of the the fed has always been the consistent position of the judiciary. It would be a monumental fuckup from the SC, with the cherry on top being that Lisa Cook didn't even do what she was accused of. If the Trump admin is seriously concerned about mortgage fraud there is an awful lot of suspicious activity in that area involving his own cabinet members. Maybe he should pay attention to that.

Of course Trump loves banks.

Sometimes I think they put Jackson on the $20.00 bill just to mock him.

This country is in trouble

They've invented and bestowed total criminal immunity on the man. These fucks do not care. They want a country rebuilt in their own image.
