Opinion First Thing: Trump says he is firing Fed governor Lisa Cook in escalating attack on bank’s independence

Interesting, considering the unprecedented way Trump was charged and convicted of those 34 "felonies" as a form of political retribution and with the goal of stopping him from running for President. You didn't have a problem with that at all, you just believed whatever you were told to believe. Call this a power grab all you want, nobody forced her to commit mortgage fraud. You guys just loved spouting that "no one is above the law" line, until it started applying to people you like. Also funny that you don't worry about how Cook committing mortgage fraud is damaging the nation's confidence in our beloved institutions. But her being held accountable is? Talk about partisan blinders...

"Trump isn't a god emperor"

"Trump is judge, jury and executioner and he is THE LAW, if he says she is guilty, she is"

Pick one buddy.

When people say "above the law" they talk about the judiciary process, not Trump's will.

When people say "above the law" they talk about the judiciary process, not Trump's will.

You and about a dozen posters have told him this, and he's dodged it every time. All this dipshit has is false equivalencies. Accusations against Cook are the same thing as convictions against trump. And I'm just gonna ignore the statute and claim that a mere accusation = "cause."

And when you point him out that this level of "cause" would allow trump to fire anyone for any reason, regardless if their position was created by act of Congress, well, he'll just dodge that and say this is for revenge.

The dumb thing about posters like @Confucamus is, he knows he's lying; we know he's lying; the whole room knows he's lying; but he still expects us to take him seriously. He's just a guy that will bend whatever direction is necessary to say donny is right. As pointed out, despite droning on for years about the release of the Epstein files, he's one of the few posters going balls out defending the pardons and the shitcanning of it. Take a peak in the thread. He's making the same dumb whataboutisms there and claims that liberals don't really care about the truth so trump is not justified in..........

It's dumb that this is the level of discourse this place has turned into. It will be fun watching them try to shift the blame for the failing economy after trump kicks off inflation by forcing the fed to cut interest rates.

Cook has said that Trump has no authority to remove her from the job over over allegations she committed mortgage fraud. Plus, a look at the AI-led agency advocating for ‘AI rights’

Clea Skopeliti

Good morning.

Donald Trump has said he is firing the Federal Reserve governor, Lisa Cook, over a claim that she committed mortgage fraud, as he intensified his attack on the central bank’s independence.

Trump wrote to Cook on Monday, telling her that he was removing her from her position “effective immediately”, based on the accusation from one of his allies that she had acquired a mortgage on a second property she wrongly described as her primary residence.

Cook responded with a statement saying that “no cause exists under the law, and [Trump] has no authority” to remove her from the role to which she was appointed by Joe Biden in 2022.

- Lula wanted to do the same here. Not even Bolsonaro tried that.
Where are the Legos, bruh? Without the Lego pictures, we don't understand what's going on.

Dunno man @cincymma79 seems to be truly convinced that lowering interest rates will improve house affordability, you can't really tell if they are pretending to be morons.

"Lets print 1 million dollars per citizen, so every citizen can afford a 1 million dollar house"

Boy you are beyond retarded here

I know you think reading is hard but i recommend you this

You have absolutely no argument

You have absolutely no argument

I do, but you are simply too retarded to understand.

Loans getting cheaper > more people being able to afford mortgage loans > more mortgage loans means more money starts chasing the SAME AMOUNT of housing units > house prices go up > people still can't afford houses.

Man ill give it to you, you got to be the most retarded guy in this place by being unable to understand the basic concepts of supply and demand.

There is a fucking reason why the Fed raises rates when inflation goes up, the very same reason why we can't have a ridiculous number like -1000000000% or something, use your brain a little man, if there was no downside ever for lowering rates then why would the go up in the first place.

A house at 5% interest is the same price as 7 or 8. Got it

A $1,000,000 house at 5% interest rate will pay more interest than a $500,000 house at 8% rates, its fucking basic economics JFC you dig yourself real deep into the dumb ass fuck.

Ill give you the Sherdog's AOC's honorary degree of economics.

After the hearing today CNN’s legal expert says that Cook’s mortage filings are very problematic and very wall are enough cause to be fired. And that in her legal filings and arguments in court today do not address them allegations at all.

Omg who could have thought that, surely some AI wizard

Let the SCOTUS decide this, not DJT.

4th post of the thread.

This will be a great case for the SCOTUS.

The fed is under the executive and Trump has the power to fire her. Or the fed is unconstitutional.

They couldn’t defend her conduct, only protested that Trump was being political. But her conduct, which they cannot defend, as pointed out in that CNN, is the issue.

The judge today actually seems like she is siding with Trump and the DOJ, just the judge doesn’t want to be the one to deal the blow to her sorority sister and will defer to a different court

Almost as strange as people like you who think you can tell black people what they should and shouldn't support. You could also go out and talk to black Trump supporters and discover that they can actually speak for themselves.

This is the exact attitude that led to Trump being re-elected, winning the popular vote and sweeping every swing state. 89% of counties all shifted in favor of Trump. This was less than a year ago. People like you who are afraid to read anything that may force you to look in the mirror and evaluate why you believe what you believe are being left behind. Immaturity isn't an excuse for you either. Most adults learned to respect others' beliefs and not behave like a child who had their toy taken away. If you manage to understand this, then come back to the conversation.

This is just you taking an event you didn't understand and claiming it means what you want it to mean.

It was a year when for the first time in recorded history, every single incumbent running in the west got smashed, and Trump won by a whisker. Kamala did a lot better than most incumbents, because Trump was a garbage candidate.

Also, every politician continued to support the Palestinian genocide, so progressives stayed home. Conservatives don't give a shit about children starving to death, but progressives do.

Don't pretend you have any idea why Kamala didn't capture the black vote; saying it was to get rid of DEI is shameless even for you.

Please answer this question for the record:

Considering Trump's abysmal business history, his incompetent cabinet choices, and his penchant for choosing only those who are loyal to him over the country, do you think him choosing a fed chair is a good thing for America?

When Trump 45 appointed Powell he was new to the Presidency and listened to advisors when making choices, which ended up sparing the country from a lot of pain. Trump 47 only wants yes men and I don't think there are any sane people left in this White House.

Nobody wants to give the president unlimited power over the US Dollar, it would ultimately lead to America ending as the center of the financial world.

One just needs to look at Argentina and Turkey to realize its a bad idea

What a painfully shameless thread.

My two cents: it seems the most ignorant and spineless people really love to post low value crap from twitter.

Also amusing that people that feel the need to call Cook a DEI Hire don't feel the need to call Trump a White Privilege President.

I mean, we all know a black man or other minority of Trump's intellect and criminality would never have a chance of occupying the White House once, let alone twice.
I think the DEI label is applied to people whose credentials emphasize their race (eg “the first black…”). I think that well-intentioned folks do no benefit to minorities by publicly emphasizing that they will go out of their way to hire minorities.

Regarding Trump, he wasn’t “hired” he was voted in by the American public.

Yeah, but who the heck is Jason Cohen?!

Yeah, but who the heck is Jason Cohen?!

Not sure, looks like a dailycaller scrub. I had just searched for Lisa cook to see if the judge had made a decision yet, and saw the CNN clip

I like the CNN analyst tho, Elie Honig, who despite TDS, was pretty fair during the Trump trials as opposed to like MSNBC. He is a former DOJ prosecutor.

Even FOXnews at the time was against Trump, since conservative inc and the murdochs were still desperate to try and push DeSantis or Haley and marginalize Trump.

Anyways, this is a WaPo article from this morning, looks like they are trying to soften the blow to liberals for when Trump gets his way and she is confirmed a fraudster. On archive due to paywall

It is funny cause they are basically like, “well she did obviously commit felony fraud, but how upset should we really be?” Then they go on to list various types of mortgage fraud, such as inflating assets and net worth. But that stuff like that is never prosecuted, even citing that banks and lenders do their own due diligence …..

… flailing to mention never prosecuted unless your name is Donald J Trump. Reap what you sow

Ethical duty is putting it lightly. Cook has been shown to be dishonest and incompetent. She's fighting these allegations without actually addressing them.

But you said if we let average people buy their homes cheaper all the Jews would die and dogs would marry cats. There is in fact nothing else the government can do. All do this posted from Mexico City as well, a known bastion of economic policy and general well being for the population
