Television First Look At The New King Of The Hill Reboot

I didn't know this was being done. Will definitely check it out. I never understood the original just like Futurama then 20 years later I watched it and like it.

Another sneak peek dropped, just as lame as the last one but I did chuckle at Nancy's last line

Bill falling to pieces is 100% what would happen without Hank around to keep him in check. How many times did Hank have to pull his butt out of the fryer?

Of course, the first few seconds in and its about gender neutral bathrooms..........

It looks great exactly what you would expect the hills to be like in 2025

I’m cautiously optimistic because I trust Mike Judge doesn’t lose sight of the things that make a show good.

King of the Hill is my favorite animated show.

Previews don’t look great but I’m also not that into the time jump and aging the characters.

It makes me fear the new episodes will mostly be explaining what everybody has been up to the last 15 years and that the new season will be serialized.

Though some things give me hope that’s not the case. Like the previews showing Bill massive and bed ridden and then another shot showing him back to his normal size.

Aging the characters and doing time jumps tells me they want to touch on “current events” which would be a drag since most everything in King of the Hill was fictional. They mostly made up their own pop culture.

They also didn’t have to age the characters significantly to not be too dated in technological advances. Smart phones and all modern social media exploded shortly after the original run ended and the show was never one to announce the current year. So I think it’s a mistake to age the series along with the actual time passed since the original run ended.

They should’ve just had Bobby in high school. Now all the characters will just have adult situations while it used to be you had the kids, you had young adults like Luanne, and then the middle aged main characters.

Plus I don’t like the animation. It looks too new. Like Archer or Bojack or something. Cant those Koreans just use what they used back then?

Writing and flow aren’t the same, art animation went from hand drawn to digital which also alters the feel.
I think this reboot style was good with Beavis and Butthead, here not as good. Might not be total dogshit.

Looks and feels off, but I'll still give it an honest try. The original is just so damn good, hard to recapture that I guess.

Toby Huss, who played Kahn since the beginning, stepped aside. Ronny Chieng is now stepping in. That kind of decision isn’t made lightly. Not with a character so embedded in the rhythm of King Of The Hill. And when that voice shifts, even longtime fans who weren’t paying attention to casting details notice something’s off. Or at least different. It’s not only about sound. There’s a deeper reason. Over the last few years, more animated series, including King Of The Hill, started rethinking casting choices, especially when it comes to race and background. Kahn is Laotian-American. Toby Huss, the original actor, is not. Ronny Chieng, with a different background and experience, was chosen to bring something new. Or maybe to bring something more accurate.

It’s also worth mentioning that Toby Huss isn’t completely gone. He’s returning to voice Dale Gribble, starting with the seventh episode of the new King Of The Hill season.

I didn't find it all that funny the first go round and this doesn't seem much different humor wise to me. Just one of those shows that I'll watch when nothing else is on.

That's so dumb. I know The Simpsons steamrolled this sort of thing then Family Guy followed, but Bob's Burgers also did something like this where a side character that's always in drag (Marshmallow) was re-cast with a tranny, and it's a drastic voice change, not nearly as funny and it never made sense in the first place since the character was meant to obviously be a man dressing as a woman with a deep voice and all.
They made what was meant to be a heartfelt episode with the character this season and it just was off since it both sounded and was written like a whole different character.

I did a quick search because I didn't see Khan in any of the trailers and had a feeling they were going to do something like this so I wasn't surprised. Mike Judge must be rolling in his grave.
