Finnegan's Wake

You know what they say: People in glass houses sink sh... sh... sh... ships.

Damn I want to watch that now. When is half St. Patrick's Day. Or Finnegan's B-day. Otherwise, I'm just going to have to watch it with no real purpose, and I'm ok with that.

Paul Smecker might be the best gay cop character ever written. His dialog alone is Oscar worthy.

Cuddle? What a phag.

I didn't realize sherdog automatically starred out the word ***.

My birthday is 3/14. Might as well hold out and watch both Boondock Saints and The Departed on St. Patrick's day.

Damn I guess I'm out of luck. Just going to have to watch them now and again in March.

Work Capacity 101:

This is a Warrior Challenge from Infinite Intensity. There is no way I could have done this workout on week 2 of this program. Thankfully, now that I'm a bit further along, I got through it.

Circuit repeated 10 times, Circuits were done in 2 minute round fashion (perform circuit in 2 minutes, whatever time you have left during that 2 minutes is yours to rest; i.e: approx 30-45 seconds rest between circuits. Its a strong motivator to do the moves as fast as possible.

5 Towel Pullups
10 Medicine Ball Slams (25 lbs MB)
15 Burpees
20 Jumping Jacks

Totals:
50 towel pullups
100 mb slams
150 burpees
200 jumping jacks

Impressions:
I didn't throw up. I was suprised at that. This is, by far, the hardest thing from II I've done yet. It felt good to complete it though. Every pullup was chin above the hands on the towels, every burpee saw my feet leave the ground (a few by about 1 1/2 inches, but hey, it was my max effort).
I'm pretty pleased with this.

That's a phenominal performance finn. I've only ever done WC101 once and I only made it through 8 circuits. I'll have to give it another shot some time soon.

Shit it takes me about 2 minutes to do 15 burpees. Great job Finnie.

MMA Class:
2 hours

Grappling:

5 minutes shrimping/ general warmup/ neck bridging

Review of:
Back door mount escape
Kimura sweep from gaurd
Another guard sweep that I forgot the name of (scissor sweep?)
Elevator sweep from butterfly

Situational rolling:
Done as 3 minute rounds, 1 minute rest. Alternate positions (top/ bottom)

Person 1 in Mount attempting to retain it, person 2 attempting to get gaurd
Person 1 in side mount attempting mount, person 2 attempting to regain gaurd
Person 1 attempting guillotine, person 2 attempting to not get gullotined.

Rolling:
3 minute rounds, approx 1-2 minutre break
Opponent 1:
305 lbs BJJ Purple Belt. It was kind of situational as he wasn't going for subs, just improved postion. We started w/ me in guard. I did decently well. Focused on head and wrist control and keeping on my hips and not flat. He passed to side mount, but I was able to recover gaurd.

Opponent 2:
275 lbs. Lots of me on my back/ gaurd work. I got a omplata sweep. That's about it. Lots of not much in this one.

Opponent 3:
Instructor. 180 lbs. He got my back very quickly, but I locked up a Saku Kimura (this seems to happen every week) Got to half guard, he passed and defended, eventually got my back. Spun into his gaurd. He escaped out the side and got my back again. Defended RNC. Scramble ended up w/ him in side mount working for a choke. Round ended.

Opponent 4:
BJJ instructor came back to visit. He immediately pulls gaurd (butterfly) I keep my arms in and head down. He attempts a couple of armbars. I pull the arm out and briefly get side control. He regains gaurd, taps me w/ armbar from gaurd. Restart: Basically the same as before, he tries to get a triangle. I fend it off for about a minute. Round ends.

Impressions:
Not a bad day. I felt fresh. Looking forward to sparring tomorrow. I was happy to regain gaurd w/ the purple belt. He was a big dude w/ a lot of muscle (think linebacker build). I had the edge on him in strength though, especially grip strength. I think I have the edge on him w/ muscular endurance too. We'll see.

Farmer's Walk:
175 lbs dumbells (bad idea)
Walk 1: 47 feet
Walk 2: 30 feet

Impressions:
Still no sawhorses, so I stopped at 355 x 1 on back squats. Legs were fried from MMA earlier, and I didn't want to risk it. Bench was the same. I cleaned up my form on it (elbows tight, feet back, little finger on rings, etc.) Giving DEVILsSON's suggestions a try on this.
Farmer's Walk was bad. I kept hitting the weights with my legs and losing balance. Basically, I had to baby step the distance and still hit the plates every step. Grip was fine on the first walk. I had to put it down when I hit the right dumbell and lost balance. The second walk was just to put them back in the garage.
