Finnegan's Wake

How do you like the lead leg 1 2?

Good vid man, we have a very very similar fighting style actually. Try some more lateral movement especially when the guys throwing a combo at you and you have to back up, but good stuff keep it up

I love the shit out of it! One of my favorite combos now. As far as styles go, I was thinking that too, remembering your vid from the competition.

Finn - Tough to make out what was going on for a lot of it. I do think that you're sparring partner needs to stop snorting ritalin. What was with all the spin moves and kung-fu posturing he was doing? You did a good job of keeping your hands up, but try not to eve move straight back. When he comes straight forward, step and pivot to the side rather than moving straight back. Throw your jab out there more, whether its for defense, to set up a combo, maintain distance, or whatever, I would suggest throwing the jab more often. You def. look leaner btw. BA + RPM FTW, eh?

Lateral movement isnt coming natural to me just yet. I need a few technical sparring sessions based just on footwork. I also see that I tend to drop my right when I move and strike with the left.
As far as head movement goes,He only got a couple of really clean shots. One is an uppercut near the end of the vid, and one of the jabs. He's fast as hell and tough to spar. Not too good in the clinch though.
Thanks for the input. Keep it coming.

As far as the leanness, yeah, I lost about 12 lbs so far. Its pretty easy to see in the before and after photos, which I'll post in my RPM log later tonight when I get a cameraperson.

I like the thai clinch you got him in. Do you do much neck clinch wrestling? You should be pulling him around once you get that clinch. Keep him off balance. KK has a great thread in the stand-up forum called The Thai Clinch 101 or something like that.

As far as lateral movement goes, just try to relax. Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. When he comes forward, just step to your left, pushing off the rear foot, and then pivot to his right. Moving off angles is going to set the guy up for a lot more openings.

Another easy score is to come out of the clinch with a roudhouse, get in close and give him a pop back with your lead shoulder, then as you bring the shoulder back throw the kick at him, it's pretty quick and with your size he will have a hard time moving out of range.

Another money maker for me in sparring is teh brazil kick, learn it, use it, love it... cause they never expect the big guy to throw it

This big guy doesn't know what a brazil kick is.
I've read the Thai Clinch thread before. Its a really good wirte up. I usually wretch the shit of the neck, but since I can't throw knees with any gusto without a belly pad for him, I find it a little hard to get motivated. I'll try the roundhouse next time if the opportunity presents itself.
Thanks again for the input.

Teh Brazil kick

Just set it up with a few body or leg roundhouses, then when they go to cover you get the high kick. The big key is to pivot your foot to open your hips and get the height

That gu's quick, but I cant imagine he hits hard. Maybe just walk through a couple of those pittet pat punches to land your own shots.

You are correct there. He can throw power punches when he wants, but he likes to try out his Kung Fu stuff. He's rattled me a couple of times in the past.

American History X...

Excellent progress Finnegan, and I mean that in the most heterosexual way possible.

great progress....

no back pose? i am disappointed...

I have one, but its totally whited out by the solar lights. I was standing too close, and I'm not doing that metro-fug high rep workout again tonight. Its not even worth logging.

Wait a minute, why are so interested in my back? Do you envy my ultrasexy Zercher muscles?

You totally should have done some pushups before the "after" shots to emphasize the "pump"

Also, no tanning lotion?

I did high rep bench press, ab wheel rollouts, rope pullups, dumbell overhead press, and underhand grip bendover rows at the 12 rep, 3 set range. It was so easy I did it as a circuit with no rest.

Those pictures just aren't disturbing. Go use a camera phone and take a picture of yourself in the bathroom. Bam... new creepy metro av.
