Finnegan's Wake

Okay. Fish oil says this:
Serving size: 2 caps
Fish oil concentrate: 2400
EPA: 432
DHA: 280
So that is about 9 caps a day with this formula. Okay.

Equipment Purchased:
10 foot chain (225 lbs test)
Carabiner
"Monster Squad" Special Edition DVD. (I burned at least 500 hundred calories from the Adrenaline dump that occurred when I saw this on the shelf.)

R.I.P. Horace.

I got a 10 foot chain with the idea of having a little extra left to use in dragging as well as dipping.

Nope. Just blowing two weeks of cash in a couple of days. I'm tending fire this weekend, so I won't be spending a whole lot until I get back.

I'd suggest you start taking B-Complex post-workout for better stress management/workout recovery.

Conditioning:
Bas Rutten's All Around Workout
28 minutes.

Bag Work:
3 rounds Bas MT 3 minute rounds
Rd 1: 16 oz gloves
Rd 2: 7 oz gloves
Rd 3: 7 oz gloves
Rd. 4 shadowboxing (no gloves)

Impressions:
Again, focused on technique after being exhausted. Made it through the All Around workout well enough. Rested 5 minutes before beginning bag work. The 7 oz gloves felt like little toy gloves after the round w/ the 16oz. Legs are dead. Since I am firetending this weekend, I'm taking tomorrow off and resting up. This will be a blowout weekend of drinking, pizza, sex, and Guinness before cleaning up a bit and losing a few pounds.
Getting anxious for the gear to arrive.

Equipment Recieved:
Mexi Wraps
"Infinite Intensity."

I've read about 1/3 of the book. So far, so good. I am thinking of doing the 50 day routine in the back after I get done firetending this weekend.

Chances are, you might want to up the dosage so you get a combined 3000mg (3g) of combined DHA/EPA.

Look at the back of the container, it should have something like

Fish Oil----1000mg
EPA----180mg
DHA----120mg

So you want about 3000mg of EPA and DHA combined, which in this case is 10 caps a day, but some fish oils have different amounts of EPA/DHA.

Okay, sorry about the backtrack here, but I just checked my own bottle o' fish oil: it's running about 215 EPA and 145 DHA: somewhere between 8 and 9 per day to hit 3000. The bottle's recomendation is 1 cap, three times a day. What's with the massive disconnect between recomendations?

FDA are poopy faces.

Hmm. Good argument: clear, concise, and leaving little room for contradiction. :)

Seriously, though: the FDA didn't recommend 3 caps/day (there's a nifty little label on the bottle saying that no RDA has been established, and no claims of efficacy have been verified), so I'm presuming that the manufacturer did. Was the 3/day recomendation based on anything in particular, or did they just figure that the average consumer would be put off by the idea of tossing down three per meal instead of three per day?

Well, it's been claimed in multiple studies that dosages over 1.5g of combined DHA/EPA causes seizures and possibly death in 18% of the trial population. The manufacturers have a low recommended dosage because they probably don't want to deal with any lawsuits. Personally, I think the benefits outweight the 18% chance of severe side effects, so meh.

Are you shitting me? You have a link to any of those studies by any chance? Russian Roulette via fish oil doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun to me.

Well, Russian Roulette is 1/6, this is a little closer to 1/5.

Conversation yanked and reply posted in your log. I figure Finnegan wouldn't be thrilled to get back from his weekend to find a page and a half of fish oil conversation in his log.

Fun Fact: Russian Roulette with an actual gun is more manly.

Firetending:
Friday:
Woodbusting: 3 hours
Our ATV was unavailable, but we had an old dump truck that we used to move wood from the harvesting site to the pit. I got a lot of dragging in. I strapped an old belt to the fallen trees, and dragged them out to the road (about 25-40 feet with a 10 foot hill at the end and up to the road.) My legs were sore from the Bas workout, but they decided to get unsore really quickly when they realized I wasn't going to cut them any slack.
A little bit of axe work, but most of it was dragging, flipping, zercher log carrying, etc. What made all of this brutal was the 95-100 degree temperature.
We built a small fire, as none of the attendees wanted anything too hot (we missed and ended up having a 10-15 foot flame coming off the thing for an hour or so).
Firetended all night, but nothing major to report physically. I did try something out though. This talk of supplements led me to try creatine for water retention. I took a scoop out of an old Creatine Monohydrate bottle, mixed it with grape juice, and then drank 2/3rds a gallon of water. The theory being that the creatine would force the water into my cells, basically making me a camel. It seemed to work okay, but I'm not sure of the scientific validity of this method.

Saturday:
Swimming: 1 hour.
We ended up going to a nearbye lake for a swim to escape the heat, which kept climbing. As soon as we get there, it starts raining and drops 20 degrees. It was near perfect. Rain, thunder, lightning, swimming, and tomfoolery were the themes. I did a lot of underwater frogstroke and backstroke, my two favorites. When we got back, the hog (this event was a fundraiser/ hog roast) was nearly done, so we had a huge dinner.

Woodbusting: 3 hours
After that, it was back to the woods. We dropped a couple of dead trees and harvested some fallen ones, and stood up a 7 foot chimney as the center piece for the bonfire.
Unfortunately, I had to leave (work on Sunday) so I don't know how it turned out.

Impressions:
I was pleased with my endurance in these conditions. I can see a marked improvement since the beginning of the festival season (May). Log flipping, dragging, etc wore me out, but it took much longer than when I began.
In other news, the Ringside 180" Mexiwraps are like pieces of heaven on my hands as opposed to the Everlast cotton 108"s. Also, did anyone else have a nigh-uncontrollable urge to do dumbell snatches and pullups after reading "Infinite Intensity"?

*points and laughs at stonebreaker*

Youre scared of finnegan!

I watched 300 again today.

I have to say, after reading the book; the movie pales in comparison. Badass effects though, but I would have went a different direction.
