Fightters that were never the same after a loss?

Renan Barao
Went from being in GOAT conversations to losing 7 of 9 after Dillashaw loss.

This is a textbook example on GOAT talks are stupid as fuck at this point in MMA for the smaller weight classes

Nope congrats to Gabriel well deserved. I was never salty just traumatized when it happened I was like 18. But Mirko destroyed his forehead in the rematch.

GG was long finished before the rematch whilst Mirko was juiced. Sad latching to that.

Are you including the loss to the bathtub?
Bathtub vs Wire is the fight to make IMO.
Both broke champions with zero effort. They just stood their ground and stopped the so called "champions" and "contenders" easily. Nome of them even dared challenge Wire or BT to a rematch.

If that exact same knockdown occurs in the 11th round or with 90 seconds left in the last round, does the ref stop the fight?

If you answer yes, then it is the right call in theory if you belive the refs decision shouldn't factor the clock.

In theory a KO should be a KO and evaluated the same regardless of the time of the fight where it occurs.

I can also see the argument that he would have survived the remaining 1-2 seconds, as he absolutely would have in the neutral corner era.

It's a crazy one In a million situation that happened to occur in a historic fight and go in favor of the A side guy, making a storybook finish to keep his streak alive.

It will never be resolved and each side is justified in their opinion.

Definitely if it happened with 90 seconds left, Steele would have been right stopping it.

It is subjective, but I would bet that at least 90% of referees would let a fighter finish the last 2 seconds of a fight if there was no chance he'd get hit by another punch.

It's like a choke in MMA, it's 2 seconds left and the choke is absolutely locked in tight and the chocked fighter just holds out until the bell. Is the ref suppose to stop the fight because it's locked in? No, 2 seconds left, you let him get to the scorecard, even if he'd pass out for sure in 5 seconds.

Wire or pipe?

Sadly Silva. Maybe it was age, but he lost his aura to Weidman. Who knows if he fought easier guys instead how long he would've continued his streak?

I wonder if it haunts his soul wondering if the outcome would have been different if TJ were a clean fighter.

Both stoppages were very late, rounds 4 and 5 I believe.

I feel like TJ was winning the whole way, but how much of that was his help via Mexican supplements?
Nah
Steroids don’t win fights

Chuck was never the same after getting knocked out by Rampage. Finished his career after that with a record of 1-6

JDS lost his iron chin after those two fights against Cain. All his losses after that came by knockout

Speaking of Weidman, he was never the same after the ill advised spinning wheel kick against Rockhold and the subsequent beatdown. He lost 5 out of the next 7 by knockout (including the broken leg). At least he is still his father's boy

Nah, he was up on the scorecards and the ref (Richard Steele) who was known to be in Don King’s (who promoted Chavez) pocket stopped the fight with 2 seconds left in the last round with Taylor still on his feet after beating the count. Taylor literally wins the fight if Steele doesn’t stop it with 2 seconds left. And of course Taylor wasn’t the same after this fight, that’s what this thread is about. You’re welcome for this history lesson sir. There’s an entire HBO Legendary Nights documentary you can check out if you want to go more in depth on this controversial fight.

History lesson?

I've been watching fights before you were a smile on your daddy's face.

Who gives two fucks if Taylor was ahead?

Chavez finished Taylor in the end.

Richard Steele was not to blame.

Chavez landed a 9-punch, systematic assault on a wounded, tired Taylor to finish the fight.

Taylor got up, and Steele ASKED, "Are you okay?" .... twice ... and Taylor never responded.

Does not matter there were only two seconds left, Steele correctly stopped the fight.

The idea that Steele "should have let two more seconds go" ... so Taylor "could win on points" ... is DAFT AS FUCK ... like the ref is supposed to "cheat and stall" to let a wounded fighter win ... by being saved by the bell ... when his opponent achieved KO Status inside the distance.

Sheer freaking idiocy. So sit down and shaddap.

Chavez properly won that fight.

Sweet spastic outburst by boasting that you’re an old fuck. Shut up grandpa. There were two seconds left. Chavez literally couldn’t have landed another punch. There was no stalling needed.

Nobody believe that.. that was just pure ufc hype.
renan back then was a savage everybody here predicted he would be like this fighter that would dominate the division for many2x years

Dominick Reyes went from 12-0 (6-0) in the UFC to 12-4 after Jones beat him (I know the decision was questionable).
James Vick was 13-1 and 9-1 in the UFC and he's now 13-6.
Thomas Almeida was 21-0 and 4-0 in the UFC and after losing to Garbrandt is now 22-5.

I'm as cool as a cucumber, you ignorant, simpleton fuck.

Yes, there were two seconds left. Nice observation, you incredible idiot.

And within those two seconds, Taylor could not answer Richard Steele, after he got dropped by a 9-punch combo.

Hence, the fight was stopped, properly, inside the distance, because Taylor was finished inside the distance.

Sit down and shaddap.

Imagine being as old as you and still not being able to spell “shut up”.

The reason he didn’t answer Steele is because he looked at Lou Duva who was stupidly trying to talk to him.

Imagine being as old as you and still not being able to spell “shut up”.

Spelled correctly within this context.

Imagine being as old as you, not owning a home, being in debt, and still screaming accolades for the loser in a fight ... who lost even more decisively in their second exchange.
