Fighting Games Discussion

He's not kidding. Virtua Racing and Phantasy Star IV were $100 when they were released.

That is so wild to me. From what I could find, the home console version of Virtua Racing released in 1994 for $100; checked an inflation calculator, and that would be roughly $204.70 today. People would be boycotting a developer for attempting to charge that amount nowadays, even if it was some revolutionary experience. I'm not super informed on that era of video game history, but I assume when the transition was being made from arcades to homes as the primary place for gaming, the prices made more sense to the average consumer. Never have I been more thankful for Steam's constant sales than now haha

Actually, Virtua Racing used the SVP chip which was very expensive to make and that's why it was $100. As for Phantasy Star IV, that was more of Sega's stupid infighting.

Seriously?? I was born in '98, so that was a bit before my time. I can't imagine paying $90 for a game and not getting some sort of special metal case, figurine, or something that came along with it. I absolutely love video games and appreciate the work that goes into them, but I start hesitating at $70; can't imagine trying to justify $90 to myself for one (especially with the value of the dollar in the '90s).
When I get home I’ll post some pics from magazines . Easier to post pics on pc than on a phone

In one of my discord groups we always talk about WWF Raw on sega because a magazine had it listed as 90$, I owned that game and I hope my dad didn’t pay $90 for it lol

Funny enough, I have! My knowledge of it is sparse though. I watched a video about it on YouTube ages ago made by Wrestling With Gaming - highly recommend his content if you haven't watched it before, really good stuff.

An interesting video on the animation in SF6. I think he makes some valid points.
