Fighters' real nationality

@jeff7b9 does it still say west and east Berlin on a Germans birth certificate?
<{Heymansnicker}>
I can answer that. After the wall went down, no one automatically got re-issued new certificates. The old birth certificates, despite the "countries" on the birth certificate no longer being actual places, were still valid documents. The renaming of a country doesn't invalidate the birth certificate.

It does. My relative’s says “Oriental Prussia” as the birth country, which subsequently became part of East Germany and Poland at different times after WWII. I have also seen birth certificates with old names of former African colonies like “Republic of Dahomey”.

Ok we are making progress.

So you don't understand how time works.

Cool.

I'm going to ask you a REALLY REALLY simple question.

Thanks for making this thread so entertaining 😂😂😂
Really appreciate it.

I was initially going to post a very serious comment about a time decades ago when people looked for commonalities rather than nit-picking about ethnicities and birth places. You know, “we are the world” and all. And how it’s sad that it’s the opposite today.

But you turned this thread into something really fun, so I won’t. Thank you for that. The floor is all yours 👏

Man.... I don't know what the fuck happened there

But I am glad you are entertained.

As for the ethnicities thing, it doesn't really mean much to me.
If a dude fights like a warrior, I'm down. Lots of my favorite fighters don't even speak English.

Kicking ass is a universal language. <Y2JSmirk>

Love the idea of looking for commonalities.

Or even ENJOYING the differences.
World would be super boring if everyone was the same.

It's crazy how many of the lines and borders have changed just within our lifetime.

I have a map from the 1980s that used to be in a classroom at the school my mom worked at, and they took it down when it wasn't the accurate map anymore and rolled it up and shoved it in the school basement.

I had keys (my mom was school director) since I used to go and use the music room on weekends or night time. I was down there stoned playing drums one day and found the old map with the USSR and yoinked that shit. I love collecting things that you can't normally buy... I had a fire hydrant for a while and a working traffic light. Great conversation pieces

You ever had your back surgery?

Yeah great convo pieces I bet. I had a roommate once who brought home a rocket launcher. My buddy came to hang out and saw it in the living and was like “eh…why is there a rocket launcher here?”. We still talk about it to this day 😂

The USSR was completely abolished 30 years ago they would be given new ones.
Nope, most of us still have our old birth certificates. They can provide you with a new one if you lose the original, but the Soviet certificates are still valid.

So yeah, chances are, Fedor still has his old one too, with "УССР (Ukrainian SSR)" as the republic of birth in it.

Stipe Miocic is an American born in America. I always found his knock off Cro cop trunks a bit disrespectful.

its not just mma fans. not even sport fans. this matters to people about everyone and everything. its very helpful to know where someone is from. you can learn a lot about them that way. the more you know...!
It means jack shit when they're an entertainment figure you'll never meet, nor have a relationship with.

But yes please continue being a total fan girl while also trying to come off patronizing.

Cro Cop is Serb (orthodox dad from Ugljevik, Bosnia)

The only person who ever brought that up actively was the late Branko Cikatić during an interview in which he wanted to badmouth Mirko.

Mirko has never identified as a Serb and has never spoken about it, not because he is trying to hide anything but because there has never been any need for him to justify not being Croatian. He was born in Croatia, grew up Croatian and Catholic, served in the Croatian Special Forces, and was a member of the Croatian Parliament for a Croatian party that was not minority based.

Can we still claim that he is a Serb? Well, nothing would surprise me, but honestly, even though this is a well known fact in Serbia (that his dad was orthodox), no one ever brings it up or claims he is Serbian. Really, no one. Mirko is trans Balkan, everyone loves him, and no one wants to change anything about him.
