Fighters body fat

Anyone can lose a crapload of bodyfat if they severely restrict their carbs and fat intake. Body fat is stored calories.... nothing more. As long as they keep their protein intake high they'll keep most of their muscle mass and use their bodyfat for energy.

The problem is it's difficult to do, and some people find it harder than others. I'm sure Roy has tried restricting his calories, but it probably left him feeling drained and unable to train properly.

I don't give a shit if it annoys you but it is just fact that some dudes like DC (especially dudes getting into there 30's) have a hard time keeping their fat down. I know you want to think you're better than them because you can chomp on veggies all day, but it just isn't the same for every person. I know for me, someone hitting 30 real soon when I cut weight I have to go down to eating 12-1400 calories a day and keep lifting hard. I feel like total shit when I do that, and I could completely understand how a professional fighter at the top of his game wouldn't be able to cut back like that to lose fat without sacrificing his training regimin

That's why you do it when you aren't in a training camp and don't have to cut weight so that you can do it gradually instead of extreme caloric deficits. I've walked the walk, I've been on meds that made me gain a lot of weight and made me feel hungry all the time and I was able to have the self control to only eat what I need despite feeling hungry all the time. If they wanted to badly enough they could, their love for food trumps their desire to be in the best shape possible.

1. some of them just don't care, Roy Nelson might be a professional athlete but he is no professional

2. water, fat is mostly water so a fighter like Munoz who is going through the weight cutting process while getting himself in shape is only going to look all the more impressive at weigh ins, bodybuilders often go through the exact same thing themselves

3. genetics, as you could imagine they play a pretty significant role in your appearance and body composition

To train mma and look like roy nelson is crazy. If he sleeps 8h trains 5h than he also needs to eat like 4 hours a day, just to stay that fat.

No but by using a little common sense you can. Was Munoz fat before that pic? No. Did he have a long layoff where he let himself go and was probably pounding away at the beer hardcore? Yes. And when he lost a lot of weight, it was after he entered into a long camp. Point was, the weight gain was him going off on a long bender. It wasn't his natural state.

I don't know how it is hard for some people to see that genetics is a real thing that makes some people chubby even when they work hard. I guess you guys believe in creationism too

Being very overweight isn't anyone's "natural" state. Some people can away with overrating more than others, Roy Nelson did not get that fat by eating a normal, moderate amount of food.

if you burn more calories than you eat, you will lose weight.

This is the bottom line. This is human biology. Yes, there is a little variance in metabolism, and a few have medical conditions that legitimately affect this. Yes genetics play a factor. But for the vast majority, it's a matter of counting calories.

That's not really saying anything about the fighter though. DC and Cain got away with eating what they wanted and they still kick ass. What's their motivation to change their diet when they're already outperforming all of their competition and enjoying more choices of foods.

There are a lot of obese people apologists in the world who want to blame everything on genetics and think it's wrong for anyone to be criticized for their weight. Might be a reason why obesity is such a problem in North America.

Dude, Hendricks is chubby.
Lombard, Lawler, Woodley, thats jacked

I was talking about Munoz when he was very overweight, so I guess we agree on that.

And yeah, Roy Nelson could lose some weight. DC on the other hand has great cardio and is stronger than everyone he fights, and is in his mid 30's. He probably isnt going to be able to lose his fat as long as he is dedicated to being a great fighter

I have no problem with DC and his weight, he moves as well as anybody, great cardio, and very explosive with his hands. But I don't see how a 230 pound Roy wouldn't have significantly better cardio, agility and mobility than a 260 pound Roy. I know there are some people who like to argue that he throws the weight of his gut into his punches, which seems like a really stupid argument to me.

I don't get why people care so much if a fighter isn't completely ripped.

I mean ffs, it's a god damn fight we're watching. People like TS obsess about this as if they are discussing male porn stars.

well, i might think losing fat is important thing in a pro athlete, how is possible they just dont care?

It's not as important as you think, in fact most fighters are way below whats optimal for their peak performance, but they have weight classes to contend with.

Come on man, of course they have to be ripped, otherwise they can't fight. Just look how jacked Fedor and Cain are! Wait...

Nelson wouldn't be as good if he lost weight. His cardio is okay, and as we know most of his wins are by K.O. anyway. It would be counter productive for him to take away some of his ko ability for a little extra cardio.

I don't know how people can say this. Does anyone know any good heavyweight boxers that are fat?

Fat may be beneficial if you're a powerlifter and you need some extra leverage, but no way in hell is it good for fighters. All it's going to do, is slow you down and drain your cardio. Every extra pound of fat you have, is one more pound of fat you have to push through to land your strike.

If anything, I think weight loss would help Nelson's game tremendously. His strikes would be faster, crisper and he could throw them in better combination. He'd be more mobile, agile and not look so sluggish.
