They were never going to give it to James Rodriguez as Colombia were only quarterfinalists. It's understandable. Macherano deserves mention, but they were never giving it to a defensive player. I actually expected Muller to maybe get it, because Germany won. In my opinion, Germany didn't truly have standout individuals, but performed well as a team.

Robben outplayed messi IMO. Messi didnt play well the last 2 games, maybe he felt something i dunno, he looked light he had an injury. And holland played much harder opponents in the group stage.

They could give it to a defender, didnt they give it to cannavaro in 2006?
 
Messi basically carried his team to the finals. Their defense did a great job too. Robben was too much of a flopper.

Messi played against a team of Germans since his teammates Higuan and Aguero couldn't do crap and were worthless.

Its a tournament award, Robben outplayed Messi especially after the group stage.
 
Got people saying Messi carried Argentina to the finals and people saying he was absent most of the WC. Glad we all agree.

Messi carried them up to the second round then Mascherano did the dirty work.

He also assisted the Di Maria goal against Switzerland and had a very key role in the Higuain goal against Belgium. The guy was involved even when you think he wasn't. He is a class player.
