Cause guys like Hulk and Fred make the cut? I'm still a bit of a noob to the sport so perhaps you can explain why big-name league players are often left out of their national teams.

Hulk and Fred are probably bigger players than the Brazilians you mentioned. Fred is coming off 2 30 goal seasons for club, and Hulk has been a well-known commodity in Europe for some time. Fred admittedly underperformed. He hasn't been the same since he came back from injury. It's unfortunate. Hulk had moments where he was decent and moments where he wasn't. The other guys you mentioned I'll just put it down to names don't win championships. It's about getting the best players for your team to perform. You mentioned Tevez, because he's a big name, great player as well, but it's kind of hard to argue against Argentina's team this year. WC Finalist and only lost in a very close game.

respect for my boy.

I teared up a little

In my opinion most coaches should leave after every world cup. Unless you came just before the world cup like Mexican coach Herrera. Klinsman should leave. He did great for the USA, but its time for new idea's.

Disagree. I think the constant change in management of teams can be detrimental. Look at Germany for example. They've stuck with Low, and they are now World Cup Champions. I think Argentina probably should stick with Sabella as well. Klinsman should stay for me as well. There are obvious examples of managers that should be gone immediately like Scolari, Hodgeson, Del Bosque, etc.

Sometimes like Tevez, Messi and him don't get along. Messi got a lot of hate for a underperforming Argentina in Copa America 2011. Yet Tevez miss the penalty that eliminated Argentina. Tevez is look as more true Argentinean than Messi(he left as a child to Barcelona). So after 2011 Tevez got dropped.

Sometimes coaches go with the players that got them to the cup. Qualifying might start like 2011/2012. Some players have good or bad seasons. Even If a guy has a great 2014 season, he might get passed over. A coach will stay loyal to a guy that started the process that began in 2011. Even if that guy might be in a slump.

I see something like Bruce Arena with Klinsman. We will see in the 2015 Gold Cup.

What happened with Low is kinda rare. Most coach's that stay for a next world cup do worse the second time around.

My point is that some teams tend to be far too quick to fire their manager. It's sometimes crazy. A manager needs time to prove himself. It's possible it could go either way.

Don't mind Messi getting Golden Ball because he was the only source of offense the team had. Aguero and Higuian were god awful. So was Rat Tail.

Messi was pretty much involved with every goal ARG scored this tournament

This. Messi was the best individual player in the tournament, and Germany was hands down the better team. And the trophies reflect that.

So are any of us Americans gonna start watching more MLS now? I guess I will now to see some of the developing youngsters.

Watch la liga, premier league and bundesliga...mls is a retirement league.

I already watch them but the MLS is also a developmental league which is what intrigues me.

Got people saying Messi carried Argentina to the finals and people saying he was absent most of the WC. Glad we all agree.

Qft. It's especially confusing for those of us who don't know fuck all about this game.

The lack of great games in the knockout stages bring it down a few notches. But the group games had so much excitement it might be enough to compensate for it.

Been watching since 1990 and I gotta give this one the #1 spot. It dethrones 1998.
