I don't know what Poirier's plans are if he should win but Khabib has said that Ferg deserves to be next if he beats Poirier and that Ferg has already earned the next title shot without getting another win. That fight is less than a month away. Ferg should sit tight for now and see how it plays out.

Its entirely possible we see Ferguson step in, considering how frequent injuries and illness can strike.

We're just a few weeks out from September 7th though so knock on wood. The reality is you would really need Ferguson to be paid some fee to get on weight and fly out to the UAE to truly have an alternate ready. I doubt that happens.

We've seen multiple fights (including Khabib himself) pulled on fight week.

He and Khabib were booked 4 times. Each are at fault (for whatever reason) twice for the fight not occuring.

He was offered a fight with Dustin for the interim title because Khabib was suspended due to the Conor fight melee. He turned it down. Instead he went and had a pointless fight with Pettis.

If he had fought and beat Dustin (which he probably would have), he'd currently be the interim champ and dialed up to fight Khabib next.

He CHOSE not to fight Dustin. There were no freak accidents there. He CHOSE a low risk fight against a guy that was basically unranked at 155 rather than fight for an interim title and a guaranteed shot.

Spin it any way you want but Tony's choices have not been the best.

Any Conor fight brings in big money. To the people saying Conor would dust Ferguson this isn’t 2016 Conor and Ferguson isn’t a FW. Has Tony gotten dropped a lot yes a ridiculous amount because he throws caution to the wind, but he hasn’t even lost a fight by KO/TKO.

Tony doesn’t get tired. Tony getting knocked down is just Tony possibly dropping a round. The pace and damage he put on Showtime had his corner calling it after two rounds because of a broken hand.

Cerrone blew his nose when he fought Ferguson which shut his eye so the Doctor stopped it after two rounds. So forget that one I guess.

Conor fought Khabib who is the most dominant fighter in MMA right now so it’s hard to know where Conor is at. I still like the fight even if I don’t see it happening.

If Conor can recapture the form he was in when he went on his run and Tony is content with keeping it standing. Conor would probably drop Ferguson early and then madness would ensue. Everyone thought Conor would put Diaz away people saying Conor KO’s Ferg reminds of that except Ferguson is on a 12 fight win streak and Ferguson’s style is pure chaos.

I'm pretty sure he is on standby for Khabib vs Dustin. So maybe he just got the contract signed for that and is now training full time.

Not a bad fight to be on standby for as I say he has a good 50% chance of being called in to fight.

Reports are Dustin is at the verge of overtraining and needs to be reeled in by his coaches weekly. That is dangerous in itself. Khabib you never know,and no one would be shocked if he had to pull out.

Ferguson's refusal to fight Poirier is going to haunt him.

The rest of the top guys at LW are tied up in matches and Ferguson gets to either sit on the shelf (again) or fight a guy with no ranking relevance.

The only guy in the top 10 that isn't tied up and might be of value is Gillespie.
