Considering some of the views held by Border Patrol social media groups, and the Trump admin sympathising with authoritarianism, I wouldn't be in the least surprised this is true. When law enforcement, which includes the BP, feel they can get away with shit, they will do it. In the Trump admin they have a person who will let them get away with shit and defend them.
