Female Action Movies?

No bro. Mao hasn't made a film since the early 90's. Ziyi Zhang was the CTHD girl

Now that I think of it didn't she play Bruce Lee's sister off Enter the Dragon?

GI Jane, Alien, Aliens, arguably The Terminator, La Femme Nikita, the American remake Point of No Return.
Alien/Aliens is a great call.

Most are really bad. Someone here referenced The Long Kiss Goodnight. <{clintugh}>

Maggie Q was good in the TV show "Nikita" but thay wasn't a movie it did have great action though.

The 100 also has badassery from the female characters.

Probably only the Kick-Ass movie, which was also a bit odd though.

But I'd say the Resident Evil movies were the only ones I liked.

The aliens trilogy is my on demand channel for free right now I have never seen the sequels.

Aliens (#2) is pretty damned awesome. I liked the third one as well though it isn't as good as the second one. Resurrection (Alien 4) is pretty poor and quite predictable.

Prometheus (the first part of the prequel trilogy) is OK but has a few aspects I did not like. I haven't seen Covenant myself. The wife thought it was decent.

All the Kathleen Kennedy SW movies. It's pretty obvious she's pushing a heroine agenda. I bet Han Solo won't even be the main guy in his own movie thanks to Rogue One and Rey.

Honestly though the two recent SW films for me actually end up demonstrating the different ways this can go. To me The Force Awakens felt like a film that was cloaking itself in "diversity" to cover the reality that it was very unoriginal with paper thin characters. Rogue One on the other hand was I thin much better written and I think you could argue was more successful for having a female lead.

The is the ironic thing for me about this debate, whilst action with with women in major roles other than a "damsel in distress" are in the minority actually the make up a pretty high percentage of the most well regarded cinema in the genre Star Wars(ok nominal a damsel but deliberately played against it), Alien/Aliens, Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 1&2, Return of the King, Fury Road, The WInter Solider, Jurassic Park, etc. As I said in that other thread I would actually argue if you want to make something with a bit of depth to it using female characters is easier because characterisation is generally somewhat more rushed than in pure dramas and its IMHO easier to sell emotionals highs and lows for female characters more quickly. Something like this for example would not be as easy to achieve with a man in the same role....

When this topic comes up, my first thought is always Linda Hamilton doing pull-ups in the psych ward. Easily the most hardcore action girl.
