Yeah, there's no consolidation possible among disparate religions as many of them take the stance that you must believe their way or you fall from grace/go to hell/etc.
For bonus points - the MRI was created by a fundamentalist. Believes literally that the universe was created in 6 days and God took a breather on the 7th. The most significant medical advance in decades invented by someone who takes most of the Bible literally.
I think there's something there where people can go through some of the horrors of life (dead loved ones, lingering disease, etc.) and believe it all works out in the end. Seems to work wonders for pro athletes.
I don't need to get sick to appreciate health. I don't need to suffer to appreciate good times.
I can go trough hard work and pain that comes with it to achieve something good. But meaningless suffering sucks.
My friend just died because of cancer. He was a great f*cking guy. What good did his cancer bring? F*ck that.
