Favourite FIlm for Every Year You've Been Alive

I wouldn't say it "sucked" but equally that was a year where I'v not seen something that jumps out as an all time classic. Arguably I spose years like that or 2005 that are the more interesting as there films that typically wouldn't get on a favourite list.

Actually I think whilst it gets attension for obvious reasons Bound is by some way the best thing the Wachowskis have done, very well done thriller that has a nice sense of Coenish noir strangeness to it. Maybe looking to read too much into it but perhaps a bit of a prediction they were both transsexual as well? again not the sex so much as the female characters coming out ontop of male antagonists all driven to destruction by sociopathic egotism.
The Shinning?

I'm really bad at this(spelling).

1980 would be the reverse, Raging Bull and The Shiniinning would probably win many/most other years as would Apoc Now and Alien in 79.

I was kidnapped for the first 31 years of my life, and they only showed me one movie the whole time I spent with their family.

Wild at Heart is so good. I wanted to give it my 1990 but Miller's Crossing is too legit

I'm guessing the issue some have with Millers is that its not really whats expected, its not a Goodfella's gangster epic and its not really overt larger than life Coens but rather a really characterful and smartly written thriller. One of the best cast films ever for me as well, obviously Byrne was born to play that character to the degree The Usual Suspects exploited Millers being underseen and did a "Ralph Brown" having him play it again but honestly I think much of the cast in that film give their best ever performances.

I don't think you can accuse the Coens of the same with J. E. Freeman playing a very similar role in Wild at Heart considering Millers was filmed before its release.

I must admit I was thinking somewhat of you when I included Love Exposure from 2008, ever seen that?

As much as I love their career it does make me wonder how things would have gone had Millers and not Fargo been their breakthough. I mean they've always had a good deal of variety but it seems that Fargo acts as more of a standard blueprint for them to drop back to, I suspect all those middling caper comedies like Burn After Reading inbetween the great films might have been better as noir thrillers.

That's not my issue at all. I thought the acting (and the direction as it pertained to the delivery of the actors) was well below what should have been delivered by actors like Gabriel Byrne and Marcia Gay Harden. The way they ran their scenes seemed almost like some beginner stuff, just delivering all of their lines in monotones through gritted teeth. The way the scenes played out tended to feel very static.

Things were better with Jon Polito. His character was quite a bit of fun. But the movie was centered on Byrne and Harden and it seemed like they needed to put more into their scenes.

Byrne was playing your classic noir hero though, that's not a scenery chewing role like Polito's but something more subtle. I think what makes it such a good role/performance for me is that its not one note, he doesn't just stand around looking cryptic and deliver one liners but manages to be charismatic, funny, pitiable, coldly ruthless and highly moral at different(or often the same) points.

The lack of Predator so far supprises me, or perhaps it doesn't given those who would actually bother making lists.

1. A bunch of slack-jawed :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:s around here
2. 1987 was a good year for movies with Full Metal Jacket, Wall Street, Angel Heart, etc. Getting one vote so far against this competition isn't bad.

Now list nine animals whose names start with the same letter as each digit in your social security number in order.

I don't think I've seen that many films.

movies nominated for best picture from the year of my birth to present day, would rack up a total of just under 300, I've seen 32 of them, and only 1 of the nominees since 2012 {Django}
