Favorite War Room poster

Rex making a thread about Miss Russia 2016 in here sealed the deal for me.

Can we get a most hated poster thread, so we can fan the flames in here?

I support this idea.

Zankou is tops.

IDL is always interesting, and old Rip... Love seeing the attacks on him, and him just going about like business as usual

thanks for your input?
Doesn't seem to lean Left to me.

I get this a lot. People who lean one way or another tend to think I lean the other when when we get talking. If they're left and they know I'm a gun enthusiast who likes to hunt and tends to be pro religious freedom on many popular issues, I'm a right wing nutjob. If they're right and they find out that I'm pro-choice, voting Bernie, am studying literature in a university, they tend to think I'm a liberal hippy douche. I lean hard right on some issues, hard left on other issues. I say centrist, but I'm not sure what that really makes me, or people like me.

Seems to me that you're pretty consistently on the right, and I figured the Bernie thing is just trolling. I remember your old AV was a anti-Semitic depiction of Sanders. Is that wrong? What do you like about him? What's your position on income inequality?

Been through this several times before. If you want to consider it trolling, fill your boots - I really can't verify who I'm voting for one way or another. I'm not going to give my "political unicorn" and my hoped for precedent setting nature of electing an honest'ish politician speech again.

No, I'm just wondering. I mean, I don't see you supporting any of Sanders' policy positions, and the AV thing was clearly derogatory. I don't see any reason to think that Sanders is unusually honest for a politician. Actually seems that he's pretty reckless with his claims, but I suppose that registers as honesty for some people.

I tend to be derogatory towards a lot of things I like. I voted Obama and I still make fun of the Hope/Change campaign quite mercilessly. I voted Bush and I am not above describing him as a bit of a hillbilly and a low IQ president. My avatar, at that point, was a picture I found immensely amusing in part because the presentation of Bernie as the covetous Jew when his character and policies are so *wildly* off from what one would expect from such a figure. Generally, the stereotyped Jews that have that image applied to them are the staunch free-market, big business, capitalist variety, not the Bolshevik, redistribution of wealth variety. It seemed like a rhetorical misstep from the anti-Semitic crowd to me and I chuckle every time I see it, that in their rush to rag on Jews they mix up their presentations.

On top of this I enjoyed watching all of you guys speculate about my politics and paint me as this or that when you, frankly, didn't have a clue. Something I find quite amusing is the propensity people have in online political discussion is to associate view/stance X with a wider world view when, strictly speaking, there is no necessary connection. Pro-gun doesn't man pro-Republican any more than pro-Universal healthcare makes one a Democrat stooge. Hold either of those positions, and you will be painted as such. I actually think you're engaging in this now and it still amuses me.

Bernie's policy? Universal health care is the big one and his platform of increased vigilance on corporate activity and a record that suggest he might actually push in that direction rather than just parrot it for votes appeal to me immensely. I don't mind the guy on gun issues either. Part of my support is predicated on the belief that he will not be able to act in an unfettered manner because an unfettered Bernie scares the crap out of me. A Bernie pushing for his radical changes who won't be able to make it all the way? I can handle that. The guy will be in office long enough to get the ball rolling and out before he has a chance to turn it into a wrecking ball. I'll take that over a candidate whose record says I'll hate them but promises me anything I want to my vote.

Well, that's pretty smug, but really, those things do generally indicate people's positions. Guns are a pretty irrelevant issue in American politics in reality, but some people are super passionate about it as a kind of cultural marker (or because they whole-heartedly consume a lot of right-wing media that presents it as a major issue). And Republicans have vigorously opposed any changes to the healthcare system (and any policy that involves higher taxes on higher incomes to pay for benefits for people with lower incomes), while Democrats are pretty divided on single payer . If you want single payer, and you vote based on that, there's only one choice. In other countries, conservative parties are OK with SP so if you're not American, I can see you being on the right and still a supporter of it.

So single payer and some vague anti-corporate stuff (which doesn't actually count as policy). OK. I get you.

Glad I could satisfy your curiosity.

I was raised a Catholic for 20 years and then turned away from the church for about 10 years. I went back to the Catholic Church because it is something I am familiar with. I am under no illusion that the Catholic religion is the one and only true religion.
So you're a practicing but not believing Catholic.

I can understand it, sometimes I find myself in a similar mindset.
@Kafir-kun for quality posts

As far as my favorite posters

@panamaican has informative posts that are often from an interesting angle

I like @Rex Kwon Do even though I disagree with him frequently. I like his sense of humor and he's well informed and I find its on some more nuanced issues that we agree so that's always interesting.

@Atheist is a good sport and I appreciate that.

@Bald1 can entertain friendly disagreements and that's refreshing on a forum like this one

@In The Name Of can be civil despite serious disagreements, though his one note posting can get tiresome after a while

I've legit learned some shit from @Ruprecht and @Jack V Savage

I don't mind some of the Christ Crew(@ripskater @TheComebackKid). They're not nearly as bad as many make them out to be and get way too much shit IMO. I weirdly find myself agreeing occasionally with rip when he goes on some rant on morality.

There are plenty of other posters that are good too but I find myself remembering the ones I respond to and engage more so than the ones I agree with and like their posts.

I wasn't implying you were Right, only that you weren't Left. I thought it was pretty clear that you fall in the centre from everything you've written.

When you started posting here I asked you point blank where you lie, because your views were unlike most, and you were coy about it, which made me keep an eye on your posting closer than I would otherwise have. If I recall, you came in like a bull in a china shop and rustled a bunch of people from both sides and it made me curious.

It's really the problem with the two party system. I also insist that by emphatically identifying as either Left or Right, people have the tendency to accept what their group says about things they feel ambivalent about. It takes some fortitude to piss of your own political kinsmen and it's natural to fall in line.

We can't even pronounce your name!

Ha! You may be joking, but if anyone is seriously confused: He's using similar-looking Latin letters and numerals to spell out Квебекстан СССР, which in Latin would be transcribed Kvebekstan SSSR. It means Soviet Socialist Republic of Kvebekstan (=a Perso-Russian translation of Quebec).

Usually I would assume someone calling their country/state/region/whatever a Soviet republic would be an insult, but I think he considers himself on the left, politically, so maybe he means it in a good way.

^ That reminds me. I remember when Bob Sapp was fighting Aleksandr Emelianenko in Russia there was a thread about it in the Worldwide MMA section and people were tickled pink that in Russian Sapp's name is spelled Боб Сапп, which looks an awful lot like "bob Cann" in English. Just one of those happy accidents in life.

I thought it was Russian.

I thought it was Russian.

Unfortunately I don't think we can use non-Latin scripts in our usernames. I see some 2016 members with diacritics in their names, though, so that's cool. Pretty sure we were only allowed to use the English alphabet for usernames in the past.
