Favorite styles in MMA?

my favorite style in mma is a fighter that uses muay thai. the ability to knock out an opponent with a muay thai elbow or knee is a good change from the usual straight rights and hooks.

i like lots of fighters but get wet for solid technical striking esp boxing

whatever style ends in an exciting finish.

so basically, your first option is thrown out the window.

For me it depends a lot more on the fighter then the style, but generally speaking, I think the most effective combo for MMA is the boxer wrestler type (who can also submit). The eye pleasing style is the Muay Thai/BJJ combo.

As for specific fighters, I think Weidman has a great style (for the wrestler/boxer combo). Superb wrestler/BJJ combo, and he has good power with his hands. That combined with his fight plans seems to give him a low risk to himself yet still has plenty of opportunities to finish his opponents. I also consider Frankie Edgar to be one of the best in this category but he definitely takes some shots at head kicks, but relies mostly on his hands and wrestling.

As far as aesthetically pleasing styles, I like Barboza, Pettis and Aldo. Barboza and Pettis have backgrounds in other arts too, but those flashy strikes make them so much fun to watch.

Cain is amazing but I'm not sure where he fits in - he seems to be an all around beast. Jones has a diverse game too.

Typically I favor a MT/BJJ fighter. Keep it standing unless it's necessary to grapple, but always look to finish.

But... being a boxing convert, occasionally I really get excited when I see a fighter exhibiting good defensive boxing skills like footwork, slipping, head-movement and shoulder rolling.

I like watching guys like Shogun, Nog, Glover

BJJ and Muay-Thai combo always been my fav. As some pointed out.

But overall, I personally like fighters with mad killing instinct, like Wand, Vitor, Bar

Guys like Fedor. His style is the most fun to watch.

I agree, really good Sambo fighters are awesome to watch, everyone always says "they are so sloppy" but they just don't know what they are looking at, there is a reason Fedor is the least hit fighter in MMA and why Khabib rarely gets hit. Fedor and Khabib both have great head movement, they parry punches with their own and are great at punching into the clinch so their opponents can't counter them. My next favorite styles are Muay Thai/BJJ like Shogun and Wanderlei and Wrestling/BJJ like Weidman.

Agreed with everything. MT is very fun to watch.

I big fan of grappling, mostly of the active high level variety. I don't mind wrestling as long as it's not solely used to control a guy for 15-25 minutes, if punches and elbows get thrown in I love it.

Also a big fan of boxing and Muay Thai...though I lean a little more towards boxing. Muay Thai seems so stiff when MMA fighters incorporate in the more traditional sense.

The striker with amazing sprawl that destroys all that try to hump in and win on points

The Wrestler or BJJ ground specialist with lethal GNP

The black Mamba submission specialist that once he has you down youre done

Anyone that goes into beast mode, especially after losing the first 2 rounds and they get the KO vs fighting to lose.

Anyone that throws the flying knee after being repeatedly taking down against a wrestler that's been telegraphing it ALL night.

I don't have a favorite style per se, but I do tend to enjoy someone who is a real expert in one area rather than pretty good in all areas (I.e. Ronda Rousey, Khabib).

I completely agree with this.

I've always had a fascination with leg lock guys for some reason. Like Palhares, Imanari, and Held. When a non-leg lock specialist goes for a leg lock, you just shrug it off. It means nothing to you while you're watching. "No way he's getting that"...

There's just something I love about guys that can submit you with leg locks. Once they grab another guy's leg, you know the fight can be over. I dunno, maybe it's just me.

fighters who are not scared to take a shot and go for the finish

Boetsch likes going beast mode, the Barbarian is a fitting nickname.
