Any of you know some fat BJJ players from your club? I'm talking like Roy Nelson fat or even fatter.

Some fat dudes move gracefully on the mat.
 
Yes, every gym has at least one token fat guy.
They love showing up 10-15 minutes late to class, so that the rest of the class has already gone through warmups when they arrive. If you or anyone else do that a few times in a row, the instructor will say something, but he just pretends he doesn't notice when the fat guy does it.
The fat guy's speed at changing into his gi depends on how far the class is into the warmups. He does it slowly if they are still in the middle stages, and he does it quickly if they are almost done. He does about 30 seconds of jumping jacks off to the side as his warmup before joining the technique section of the class.

I've rolled with him, and I'm a 300 lb dude with decent mobility, and he just crushes me, both with pressure and ridiculously good technique. Unfortunately (or fortunately for the rest of us) he's the anomaly.
 
A lot of weight and a little technique, you're in a lot of trouble.

Our club has a few heavier dudes, many blue belt or above. Super difficult to deal with. Our head instructor is a black belt and probably over 300 lbs. Nightmare to roll with. When he's going "easy" his top game is suffocating.
 
Fatness can be a sign of high skill. I mean, if you can be blackbelt level and obese, you must have some superior skill hidden in the folds somewhere.
 
We have a dude who's like a 285 lbs purple belt and former collegiate wrestler. He is shockingly quick for his size, has great hip movement, he can pass any guard, and his side control is basically impossible to escape from. He has a good N/S choke too. I've really only seen him get beat by strong black belts, he completely kills everyone else.
 
I was once 130kg (286 lbs) and now I am 90kg (198 lbs).

I was once the token fat guy, although I did not skip warm ups and other things. It still takes me forever to put on a gi though.
 
ye man, there are a lot of fat jiu jitsu fighters out there.. if you look through ibjjf competitions the super heavy division is pretty good.. may not be as technical and fast as the lighter ones, but these guys know how to put some pressure over ya, and its pretty freaking hard to hip escape from under a guy who can weight twice as you do (in my case im 68kg so its not too hard to find guys who are at least 30 kg heavier) it is still good training tho, when you come back to face people your size it feels like your lifting a cloud or somethin lol
 
I wouldn't be so quick to assume that heavier dudes are less technical than skinny ones.

We all tend to rely on strength when our technique isn't working or we are tired. When particularly heavy/strong people do it, it might be more effective (personally, when I start relying on strength instead of technique, I end up much worse off than if I just accepted I was in a bad spot). But that doesn't mean that fat people are inherently less technical.

Heavy people find it easier to exert more pressure, just like naturally flexible people might find it easier to move through weird positions. It depends on the individual person as to whether or not they are technical.
 
There are a few big dudes at my gym but I wouldn't describe any as blobs or anything. I'm 6' 240+ lbs and there are (3) dude that are taller and heavier than me.

The best guy is a BJJ Purple belt and also pretty awesome at Judo. 6'3 and 290 pounds. Very scary to roll with.

Another guy is 270 and easily one of the strongest guys I've ever rolled with; also very explosive. I always get injured rolling with this one.

and of course we have a 300 pounder as well. Older dude, very nice, decent technique but limited physically.
 
We have a blue belt at my dojo is that about 5'6" and roughly 265-280. He's just a heavyset guy. The part that surprises most people is that he's very flexible and agile for a guy his size.

He's also like a jiu-jitsu encyclopedia. The guy is a Good Will Hunting type of math whiz, and him and his best friend (and engineer for the defense industry) spend almost all of their free time away from the mats studying match videos and instructionals like MGinAction. If his body didn't make some techniques difficult/impossible, he'd be even better.

As to downsides? I think at times he doesn't realize his own strength, particularly with leverage on his side. Obviously, cardio is a concern, but the guy managed to handle a 50 minute blue belt test that included nearly 20 minutes of takedowns. He's fine on the mat...he's just not going to run a marathon anytime soon.

LOL! Awesome post! I prefer to describe myself as a chunky but funky player! Big guy, 6' & 270lbs, with little man's guard skills, working to implement inverted techniques, ala Cyborg, in the new year! I've insisted for last couple of years on starting on bottom when rolling to strengthen my guard/sweep game. I find that I have more partners to roll with also!!

No shit dude, you are smaller then me and I small.......hahaha!

Anyway, our resident fat guy went from 243lbs to 190lbs. Older whitebelt that has begun to grasp technique over strength real well and learning how to get crushingly heavy.

Our resident big guy is around 240lbs, but he is more of the big strong guy, not fat guy. Also he is a sambo badass so already had great movement and no-gi when he started. We joke about him knowing every leg attack under the son, but tapping to lapel chokes like crazy.
