But he said he'd be the first true African champion. African isn't a nationality. South African is. So he triggered people with actual African lineage.

DDP is African from a geographical point of view. He is not African by an ethnicity point of view. The term “African” is more closely linked to ethnicity than “Australian”.

African isn't an ethnicity though. There are many ethnicities in Africa (not all of which are within the 'black' group).

To me this seems like some sort of conflation with the American term 'African American' which is often used interchangeably for 'black' but which is also not very precise.

That's the problem with imprecise language. You get so many conflations and it muddies the water enough so that we have these endless discussions which are mostly based on different peoples interpretations of words.

It amuses me to see Americans shit on DDP for being racist when the cultural genocide in the USA, was far more comprehensive than in, say, South Africa.

Every county and ethnicity has skeletons in their past and the only thing we should do now is acknowledge them but not be ruled by them, and be good to one another now.

Izzy is not an example of this attitude. DDP is.

There was definitely a lot to not be pleased about. Josh Thomson admonished it pretty thoroughly on the recent episode of the Weighing In podcast. And Big John shared the sentiment. So there's definitely a lot of people really looking down on this both from just regular viewers, and connected figures. Like we just don't need that shit in the game. To so brazenly make it a black vs white or cultural ancestry angle was in really poor taste. So many avenues to take the high ground, or just another direction of disrespect that isn't so on the nose to sell the fight with. But can't be surprised really. This isn't izzy's first time just going too far in an attempt to sound intimidating or whatever. Between this, his twin towers comment in the yoel build I think it was. And also that weird time he said he was going to cum on Kevlin Gastellum. I like Izzy when he's in "just chillin" mode. But in these amped up promotional moments guy gets a bit socially awkward.
