Media Fans are not happy with Izzy's behavior

It seems mild if you're uneducated or just can't be bothered caring that much.

It's a touchy issue (the genocide and slavery of tens of millions of people over hundreds of years).

But yeah, it's no big deal..

<YeahOKJen>
What does that have to do with anything?? This has nothing to do with politics or even race. Do you understand the concept of nationality?? Literally all that was said was, "hey, I still live in this place, I train in this place and you don't." All of that is simply true. You can conjure up whatever implications you want but that doesn't change what was actually said.

Their interaction got me thinking. Ultimately, what was wrong? Izzy calling a white man the N word? Or him using the N word at all? Him saying it to another black man wouldn't often anywhere as much, or not at all. DDP is African, some people would say it shouldn't offend him cause he's african! Some would say it's offensive cause he's white! Izzy stating he'll use "26-36 and me" to prove he's more African.

In other words, "you can't be African and be white" Izzy even used the word cracker for DDP in an recent interview with his bro....So this issue is mainly about color then, and that's 100% Izzy's angle.

That's a rabbit hole I don't want to get into, any further lol

It would have been hilarious if Izzy called him a hard R one time in response to the African claims. What actually happened was cringy AF, but it was still funny. Too many people are virtue signaling and trying too hard to be “Allies” by being insulted by this.

Wolf tickets are working. PPV buys incoming.
1: All I'm gonna say is let's not play it completely stupid when it comes to the charged connotations that have to do with white and black relations in post apartheid South Africa that are obviously being raised and dog whistled to here.

2: Race and culture wars sell including in fights, real animosity or not this will be big for the UFC, any promotion would jump on this to exploit and UFC fans are frothing at the mouth over this. I think it matters more then the fight itself for most to be honest.

Race/culture wars have been used in boxing forever, tbh. Mayweather used it in many of his fights, especially against Mexicans.

It’s an easy sell. This one is even funnier since it involves a white South African and a Black Nigerian/Kiwi/Chinese African lol.

Izzy is great at selling fights and pushing his brand. He’s also great at triggering his haters, there aren’t many that have done it better in combat sports. The pearl-clutching has been very entertaining to watch since Saturday night.

I do find it funny that a lot of guys here on the dawg who normally would be like "don't be triggered bro" "fuck cancel culture!!" Were crying and somehow at the same time collectively jerking off together about Izzy being "racist" .

Everyone's the same lol, everyone always knee jerks towards self righteous posturing when it suites them/makes them feel morally superior.

You seem like the kind of person who looked down on people for thinking Jorge and Colby had actual beef leading up to their fight.

It can still be wolf tickets, im not gunna get tricked into being hyped for another izzy or jbj fight

You get two to five rds of a boring then an anticlimactic finish or UD

He's a twat but you damn right a black dude should stand up against a white South African and cuss him out

Oh no, celebrated too much on the children's dad's unconcious corpse! Oh no, he was doggy styling a concussed Paulo nice guy Costa!! Can't believe he tried to bait a south white African dude to use the N word! So cringe!!!

I am gonna watch him fight though even though I don't approve of his actions! He should be more mature for his age and as a champion!! Oh noooooo hahahahah

So we are in agreement - both fighters are invoking real world issues to raise awareness of their fight, playing into it to create a sense of animosity that isn't truly there. DDP did it in his interview about being the real African fighter in the UFC and Izzy does what usually does, exacerbating the issue with histrionics and hyperbole.

People love this stuff and eat it up by the spoonful. Even Suredawg is filled with posters who love the melodrama more than the fights themselves. They're like women who read gossip magazines.

Adesanya knows what he's doing. He either galvanizes his fanbase with his actions, style and demeanor or agitates those who hate him even more with the same. One way or another, you're tuning in if you're a fan, or you're paying to see him get knocked the fuck out. It's the Mayweather effect all over again.

I do find it funny how these issues provoke posters who are obsessed with race but don't have the balls to enter the War Room and be blatant about it to unmask themselves, lol.

For pure entrainment & research purposes

I would like to see the public reaction to Izzy's call out in the 80's, 90's, early 2000's, and compare it to now

Would there even be a big reaction? Too many snowflakes nowadays.

Yeah sure.. It's selling tickets. It was also totally racist. Imagine if a white guy went off like that. In any other industry or sport, there would be repercussions for speaking in those terms, especially if they were spoken by a white man. Izzy's (and society's) racial double standard here is gross.

For the most part we are in agreement although I really don't know how much of this is kayfabe and real animosity. I'm not gonna make a sure fire judgement on which is which but either way, yes it's going to sell and do relatively big numbers.

I would emphasize a little more how divisive DDP's comments are although I agree Izzy reacted in a manner one would except.

And to an extent I'm sure he does realize how his detractors matter, after almost every victory he's had he's called out the "haters" . He knows when it comes to money all you need is eyes on your fight whether it's support or something else.

Although again I think you're assuming a little too much Machiavellian intent here and flattening this whole thing when it comes to each fighters motive and what being a White South African can mean to some.

But to some things up, that doesn't really matter because like you and I have said for the promotion this sells, so when it comes down to the money (beyond the optics) it might as well all be kayfabe.

And yet Izzy has 10's of thousands of people interacting with his posts

His online engagement is one the highest in the UFC

The interest for their potential fight is already incredibly high. And it will only grow once there is an official announcement

Hate him or love him you are paying attention

Adesanya is out here playing 4D chess while y'all playing tic-tac-toe

Not sure if it’s chess but agree that it’s gonna hype the fight.

Calm down. There’s obviously a double standard around that word, it’s got nothing to do with this particular sport.

That's fair, but to be honest, despite this being a real world issue that one can delve into and possibly argue in perpetuity, all the soundbites culled from the fighters themselves will be diced up into a nice video package to be played up on the next Fight Night to promote the PPV. The Pre-Fight press conference is going to be the cause of so many threads where everyone thinks their two cents deserves an OP. I can see it now.

Haha oh yeah 100%. And honestly gotta give the UFC credit where credit is do here because you know they are gonna walk that line brilliantly. Keep the heat with all the real world connotations while not putting it too directly into the promotional material so it's not so controversial that it backfires.

God if DDP some how wins and gets on the mic shit could go wild here <Lmaoo> .

I mean this thread and so many others are proof, people can pretend all they want but 99% of fans love kayfabe. I know I do, I had to mute the post DDP fight cause Izzy was kinda embarrassing himself but I'm not gonna pretend like that moment isn't ingrained into my brain now lol
<Fedor23>
Will be interesting to see whose shook in this one.
