Check the comments on Ariel Helwani's or ESPN's IG posts, bunch of nuthuggers. Saying it is fake news and it is just another slag looking for a pay day, absolute scum.
Oh, sure. Not surprising. What I saw on Twitter was different, more along the lines of "why didn't you report on this 3 months ago, when you were getting tagged every day."

Helwani, posting the NYT link: "This is the report that was posted within the hour."

Helwani, the day before: "Make no mistake, the UFC needs Conor McGregor right now."

Still no media outlets reporting this in Ireland today.I tought once it broke the Irish media could start printing?
Youre from Ireland? What are the locals saying regarding this? Do you think he did it?

Yes I am.Yes I remember the morning it was reported that a famous sports star had been accused of sexual assault.I had no ideas it was Conor until the leaked social media started 2 days later that he was the accused. He definitely has been arrested and says sex was consensual. The thing here is that the girl ended up in the rotunda hospital a day later for treatment supposedly to have her tampon removed from her cervix and the accused beat the shit out of her.Do I believe it is true?Yes I do.There is too much smoke here without fire. Also the Irish times says girl made statement. If she was looking for hush money I don’t think she would have made a statement. The file is now with the dpp so I think it’s gone a bit far for a payoff.
Again i have to say I loved the guy when he first started but the money has gone to his head

I hate when people bring up money and fame as an excuse for his behavior because it kind of absolves him of responsibility. I don't think it changes who you are, it just magnifies your true character. There are plenty of poor people who brutally rape, and plenty of rich coke heads who don't. Conor was always a shithead at his core, the money helped bring it to the surface.

No I think he is a knob jockey as well.In fairness you are right that money should not make you that way but I just think when he first came on the scene that he came off very well in interviews. If fact he was a little humble but then over night he turned into a knacker.

Does anyone find it interesting that the UFC is totally silent about this allegation?

Yep. Also find it interesting that they've been silent for three months, along with all MMA media, except to say "who should Conor fight next"? I mean, seriously, deafening fucking silence when everybody knew. That itself is a story, and I'd like to see it told.

Starts like
Why did Ariel just sit on this for 3 months

To be fair, it's not just Ariel, but he was the douchebag who camped outside the jail all night after the bus attack like to do some serious and important reporting. Equivalent of camping out all night on Black Friday to get first whack at a toaster.

So, now, here is this much bigger story, out in the NY Times, and MMA media is much more interested in the "retirement" story. It sure as fuck looks like they're still under orders to tread lightly and we're currently watching a pivot in PR/game plan.

Yeah if she hasnt taken hush money that says a lot right. Conor was willing to give his DNA, does that sort of show his innocence or cant really tell from that. Its possible Conor was coked out of his mind and decided to rape her and from his point of view she wanted it.

I bet you mr "Investigative Journalist" Karim Zidan wont even touch this story. Lol. So much for an investigative hournalist. Hes too busy focusing on Other stupid shit.

People tried to contend that his brash loudmouth persona was just a marketing act and that hes most likely a decent, humble guy underneath it all. But perhaps the opposite is true and he is an obnoxious asshole who faked the humility. What seems more likely to you?

In fairness nobody could report something this big without multiple sources. They would be crippled by litigation.

It obviously took the NYT a while to be sure they had enough ligit sources to risk the potential litigation.

There was clearly a super injunction in the UK. Papers three would have known almost as quick as in Ireland. The NYT must have taken all that time to cultivate criminal justice sources in Ireland. No way Ariel (or anyone else in the mma media) is able to get legit sources in Ireland's justice system or would risk the lawsuit.

Yeah, check out this tweet in response to Matt Brown asking about this investigation. It's safe to say that the NY Times finally unearthed an ironclad irrefutable source before printing the name.

EDIT: sorry, posted the wrong tweet. I'll find the one I'm talking about.

I can't link it for some reason. This is what it said:

"Rumors of this alleged assault have been circulating on twitter since early-mid December. A small group of individuals were challenging the information, even making suggestions of legal action over its dissemination. This has had a chilling effect on its reporting thus far."

I've been a fan of MMA for the last 3-4 years. Having "some" Martial Arts experience, being traditional Karate (Okinawa Te) training as a young teenager (4-5 years) then some TaeKwonDo as an Adult (2-3 years) my interest in flexibility lead me to Yoga, which I have practiced and taught for over 15 years. I'm just giving this as context for where my viewpoint comes from. It should not come as a huge surprise that I don't much like Conor or his overall impact on MMA. While he has brought a lot of global focus and attention to the sport, his success, mixed with his constantly escalating desire to "be" the sport coupled with his antagonistic behaviour before fights has always seemed to be the antithesis of what I would personally look for in a Martial Artist. That's not to say I gravitate towards goodytwoshoes (eg I like Masvidal) I want authenticity, and I want to see fighters evolving in a positive direction, not just in terms of their success but also their growth as a person.

I thought Conor started going off the rails leading up to, and certainly after his fight with Aldo. He seems like a very intelligent person who is nonetheless controlled by an ego that has been excessively overfed due to his remarkable success. I think Conor was and is a very skilled fighter but his career path was also given every opportunity to blow up, courtesy of Dana White, who knew this guy was money right from the start. I actually feel that Dana himself probably carries some level of responsibility for what Conor became, it's almost like he gave him the keys to the Kingdom without any safeguards to ensure Conor would not fall victim to the sort of excesses that sort of money and celebrity was bound to bring him. Given Conor's personality it was as clear as day (to me anyway) that he was headed for trouble.

Given his trajectory, there is nothing remotely surprising about the allegations Conor is currently facing and I don't think there is anything wrong with speculating on the balance of probabilities about his guilt or lack thereof, as long as we all remember it is just that, speculation (no matter how well reasoned), and that ultimately, the presumption must be innocent until proven guilty. You only need to put yourself in a situation where you yourself are facing a false accusation to recognise the justice in taking a position like that.

Having said that, the things we already know as fact are pretty damning in terms of what they say about Conor and how badly his life has already been messed up. We know a woman was raped, and we know Conor did have sex with that woman but claims it was consensual. assuming the best case scenario for Conor, he is telling the truth, and his victim is either lying or not willing to name the true rapist, meaning the current suspicion falls on Conor. In this scenario, a DNA test should have been able to identify the presence of 3rd party DNA not belonging to Conor, meaning he should ultimately be in the clear for this.

The problem is, in this best case scenario he has now been publicly outed as f!cking around on Dee with a 20 year old woman. Since we know this is true, we can reasonably speculate his relationship is in very bad shape, and probably has been for some time. It is actually quite a miracle that she is still with him, but real life is complex and messy and no one should be speculating on her morals that she has chosen to stay with him because we simply don't know enough to make any sort of judgement about her situation or the very difficult choices she has sitting in front of her. Regardless, life for her must be pretty miserable, as he has disrespected her in a way that would surely be pretty humiliating for anyone with any sense of self worth and dignity.

The bottom line is I think Conor has become such a cliche that I almost can't despise him like I once did because it is so clear everything in his life is imploding and I can't help but feel that the tragedy is that he had so much, and appears to right on the edge of losing it all. For the poor woman who got raped, she deserves justice and regardless of whether it was Conor or not, I hope she gets it. I personally won't take any joy in seeing Conor fall if it was him, in fact I really hope it wasn't him, because as bad as his situation is right now, it stands to get one hell of a lot worse if he did in fact do it.

In the worst case scenario, where he did do it, even if he does not get charged or convicted, his life will still be forever ruined, because you can lie to everyone else, cover everything up with millions of dollars, but you can't lie to yourself. Every time he looks in the mirror, he will know what he really is, and that shit will be like a mill-stone around his neck, ruining everything else in his life. This is a type of Karma no one can escape.

In my opinion being charged and/or losing Dee is the best thing that can happen to Conor right now. Unless someone or something makes him open his eyes he'll only get worse - if he is guilty of this rape and gets off with it the untouchable attitude will only get worse.

The way he has treated Dee these past few years is horrible and I want to know the real reason she hasn't left yet. Is she trapped? Does he threaten her? Are they in an open relationship?

I would like to see Jones, Übereem and Ngannou have a conversation with this man about his "adventures"...

Him and Mike Rusell are the ones that gave Conor all that info that he used at 229 presser. He would never touch this, would rather talk about a 'gay purge' in Chechnya that has nothing to do with MMA and link it to Khabib.
