Social Facial recognition to replace passports, IDs at US airports

He's referencing 1984. It's not just a classic dystopian novel, it's a blue print on where we're heading as a society and nation.
Doublespeak or thoughtcrime. Not "wrong think" lol

What we thought was a work of fiction has turned out to be a prophecy.
I think Orwell had an understanding and deep cynicism of the human condition as it relates to politics, power and control.

Here's the question though, does government control evolve at the decree and uncoerced will of the people or is the people's understanding, expectations and tolerance of government manipulated by the government for its own survival and maintenance of control?

Yeah that's pretty much true. The absolute brain dead idiots that shill for a "cashless society," literally ensuring that all wealth is controlled by banks, makes me think we need a reset. It's unbelievable. The banks don't even really have your money, it's more of a contractual relationship, and once they have all the wealth FINALLY under control there would be absolutely no way to oppose any new rules they recommend.. How would you find the opposition? Lol comically scary stupidity.

They’re required by law to always hold 10% of your deposits... the other 90 is invested

I honestly wood knot recognize a lot of porn stars without a facial

What is the difference between Facial recognition at the airport and providing your passport that is scanned that has your facial picture on it?

Either way they are getting a picture of you?

I’m cool with it

For some reason things like this don’t bother me. I’m not committing any crimes or doing shady business so have at it
I think there are legit reasons to not want the gov't invading our private spaces and wanting more and more ID, etc, but I don't see how this is one.

the airport is one of the most surveilled places you will pass thru and you are searched and ID'd and your passport is scanned with your image already captured.
This does not seem to be adding anything new and more seems to be just saying, keep the passport in the pocket, we already got you. Keep moving.

Those complaining seem to be saying 'no, stop me and make me pull out and scan my passport. You must only collect that data including my picture that old way'.

There are a lot of people who see my posts, whatever they are and they will immediately argue against my position. Is normal.

Facial recognition tech is simply the way of the future. Will work for everything in the future. No need to try and fight it, we should accept it because we aren’t going to change it and go backwards

I don't mind the idea of this being used at airports, but it's too easy to imagine less severe abuses of this technology once it proliferates out into everyday areas. I feel like a common sci-fi trope over the last decade or so has been the image of someone walking along and being bombarded by ads as his face/eyes get scanned.

Couple that with all the ways we already let companies exchange our information and it paints a picture of incessant aggravation.

I think I'd be okay with it on the condition that such technology only be allowed to replace processes where the explicit goal is to identify someone, and the customer has agreed to being identified (as is the case here). Under no circumstances should we have to deal with this if we're just going about our day-to-day business.

You wouldn’t. The evil globalist establishment espouses and pushes your leftism onto the people.

Freedom is so yesterday and right wing

What about any of this is leftist? Remember, this massive surveillance state was set up by a GOP congress and GOP administration, and is being enacted now, under another GOP administration.

The fuck is it with you, the globalists and the leftists? None of you weirdos can even qualify who these groups consist of, or what their goals are, yet they're the reason for every ill on Earth.

Are You Ready for Facial Recognition at the Airport?
Airlines and TSA are starting to scan faces to get people through security and boarding faster, as privacy advocates warn of unintended consequences

Travelers have to face a new reality—their faces are rapidly becoming their IDs and boarding passes at airports.

Facial recognition is rolling out at boarding gates for international flights at big airports in Europe, Asia and the U.S., even as privacy concerns about the technology grow.

JetBlue is doing it in New York; Delta in Atlanta, Minneapolis and Salt Lake City, with the rest of its hubs added by the end of 2019. International airlines from new entrants like Norwegian to old hands like Air France also are scanning faces to board airplanes in the U.S.

In Atlanta, Delta is using facial recognition for international passengers in Concourse F at checked-baggage drops, the TSA checkpoint and boarding gates—anywhere you would normally have to show your passport or driver’s license. You just look into the camera. The system identifies you and knows where you are going, so out comes the bag tag. You don’t need a boarding pass or passport at security. Just look into the camera and head to the body scanners. At boarding, smile and you get a receipt with your seat assignment. It’s optional at each stop, but the airline says it’s faster and easier.

When the govt says " It is NOT a surveillance program", you better damn well believe IT IS a surveillance program, you would have to be a right wing pundit/or left wing pundit making millions of dollars on some news channel to say and believe otherwise... FOH. Big Brother is watching, our every move, from Facebook to google, to your damn WiFi and now facial recognition at the airport. If you live in a big city they already have "traffic" cams monitoring your movements, and have been doing so for the last decade and a half..... and then people have the unmitigated guile to talk about Russia hacking our elections, or China and their communist regimes but stay silent and do nothing and merely believe " oh its just to make my life easier!" Meanwhile our govt officials continue to rob us of our freedoms piece by legislative piece on both sides of the political spectrum. They say it's for protection but where were these cameras when Epstein allegedly killed himself? Allegedly not working. Which is pretty convenient for the Elite raping and sacrificing children. If you don't think we are living well beyond George Orwells 1984, you are willfully asleep and are part of the problem.
If it makes boarding faster I'm 100% for it so long as if I bring my Passport, and the machine reads me incorrectly, that my Passport takes precedence in confirming my identity, and the machine's opinion is thrown out.

Most will lazily stop carrying their IDs, and then whine for civil liberty lawsuits when this happens to them. In swoops the ACLU to protect the idiots!!

they already have your face. privacy evaporated a long time ago. This security can easily be averted too

ya, but the key to this issue is that airports capture your digit identity regardless. Whether thru presented ID or thru this technology. So this is simply a streamlining or upgrade of the current process not an addition.

Those who stamp their feet and say 'NO, manual collection only' are just being silly as that changes nothing in terms of what they ultimately collect for ID. Whenever they scan your ID at the airport they capture your digital photo along with other data in the ID.

Don't get me wrong, I have a "Don't like it, don't travel" attitude, but I doubt this stops at the airports.

You guys touched on one of my major issues with this, other than privacy, is that shit like this enables idiocy and laziness.

I thought China was supposed to be the dystopian shit hole with facial recognition?

Bad idea, those things are awful from experience. I've missed a connecting flight last year because it couldn't match my passport photo to the facial recognition

From what I remember facial recognition doesnt really work very well.
