This was an adaptation of a broadway musical. They didn't shit on any IP, didn't race/gender swap, etc etc. NONE of us were complaining about this movie either.

I don't think Asian people are really regarded as an oppressed minority anymore. Asian immigrants to Western countries in general worked their arses off to get their kids a great education (and pushed them to do so).

As a result the second generation tend to be successful and well off. I think I read somewhere in the US the most successful race demographic in terms of income is Asian people. So maybe that's why, not sure,
