Japanese steam site will no longer call Yasuke a samurai. There goes the fan fiction that only Westerners are upset about it.

Who said only Westerners had an issue? It'd make sense that the Japanese would have the most issue with it.
It also makes sense why you wouldn't call Yasuke a Samurai on the Japanese steam site because "Samurai" is a Japanese word with a specific meaning that a Japanese person would associate with it.
Part of the whole reason they delayed the game was to address some of these cultural issues that they messed up on--and those would have been noticed by Japanese for the most part, not your average Western player.

but even this is putting woke in a box that tacks on an essential question: is this product good or bad? this question is ultimately superfluous to whether the content of a product is espousing woke ideologies. you can have two products that are expressing the same exact politics or ideologies, but one is nuanced & the other is hamfisted. how is the latter woke but the former isn’t?

They're not the exact same politics. Similar elements and goals, sure, but one is more militant in it's approach.

Just as an example, Progressives will talk about ending racism through the sharing of ideas and culture. That's it. Woke people will talk about ending racism, by simply eliminating those who they perceive as racist, instead of enlightening them, and trying to force a new social hierarchy.

alright, i suppose i don’t completely hate this distinction. it’s a complete bastardization of the root meaning of woke, but as a rule, i accept the fact that language changes & evolves over time (if only people on both sides of the aisle would acknowledge the fluidity of language, rather than only considering linguistics when it’s convenient)

I tend to think though on Sherdog this question no longer matters, I remember being really surprised how good the film discussion on Mayberry was when I first moved outside MMA discussion here but now its just full of bitter middle aged men who don't really seem to care about cinema much at all, they just want a "liberal" cloud to shout at.

i think the saddest part is how those people will view art & media through that narrow (oftentimes bigoted) prism exclusively. it has completely stunted their ability, or even desire, for critical analysis in any meaningful or insightful way.

Again really I think its that moaning about woke online has become more important to them than watching cinema.

I may have disliked the Starwars sequels but I didnt WANT to dislike them, I suspected they might be bad with Abrams involved but I would have been very happy to be wrong, a good film is worth vastly more to me than an online argument.

Ironic thing is I would argue the MOST political thing in the Starwars sequels was actually the Holdo plot in Last Jedi which to me was a pretty thinly veiled allegory of the 2016 democratic primaries pushing a pro Admiral Hilary position.
