343 released mod tools for every game in Halo MCC. Flight Simulator has mods. Minecraft has the biggest mod scene in existence. Bethesda has released a creation kit for every single one of their games including Starfield. What on god's green earth are you even talking about?

He's probably referring to the fact that certain companies have been effectively blacklisting mods that they judge to have unsavory content. Sometimes these aren't the developers themselves. In the most extreme cases, for example, this was as ridiculous as blacklisting mods that enabled players to choose a gender in games where the character creation screen was limited to "body type". Nexus, the largest online modding community separate from the Steam workshop, did this:

Microsoft is the parent company of the game developers I named.

If they had it out for modding, letting Bethesda release the dev tools sure is a funny way to show it.

No, Nexus is the most popular modding site in the world. So I'd opine that if they are prohibiting mods then it's relevant to the "derp just mod the game whiner!" argument.

Also, yes, sometimes the developers themselves, such as Bethesda, also do it. And guess what? Censorship ultimately cuts both ways! Ultimately, everyone becomes a victim of the Big Brother approach. Here's a story from three weeks ago:

Also, the advice to just "mod the game" isn't helpful to the bulk of gamers who play on consoles or other platforms which don't afford gamers modding tools.
 
Mods can certainly impact the success of games on PC, but not for console players last time I checked.
Boycotting Nexus Mods has been a thing for a while though, and not because of identity politics.

Ubisoft upsets Japanese Gamers again.
Ubisoft tried to promote the game but unfortunate they thought that using the ionic torii gate would have been a good idea it did not.
