You missed out the part that the first Predator and T2 were Arnold movies when he was at his peak of his popularity, and action movies have always been male driven and relied on the suburban (white) male to make bank. As much as I like it, Predator Badlands will be a flop because, among other things, there is no charismatic male lead to sell it to audiences.

No, I meant casting a black or mixed guy as the male lead, then having a female character doing all the lines, when the franchise was started by Arnold and never quite had the box office returns when he wasn't the lead. In this political climate, with all the DEI consultants studios hire, wokeness is in effect. To make an example, look at the last Twister movie, the 1996 movie had Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt and was a roaring success. The recent one had a female lead, then Glen Powell and the Latino dude. The female lead turns out was the brainiest and ballsiest out of the whole cast and led the charge in the final climax. They could have made the movie with Glen as the lead to kickoff a franchise but didn't. The movie only broke even and I doubt there will be a follow up.

Coincidentally, Glen is also starring in the Running Man 2025, another Arnold movie. I think it will do way better in the box office then Predator Badlands, because surprise, suprise, it has a charismatic male lead.

That's fine, but it's very obvious to me that woke is broke.

Well, I certainly hope I am wrong about the box office. I want to watch the sequel so bad. Don't care if woke.

At 105M budget, I think it needs 250M worldwide to break even. And 350M to be considered a hit. Neither is a hard prerequisite to have a sequel.

edit- and the reason it overperformed because the projected 25M was already set to be quite low due to overall Fall 2025 performance of US/Canada opening. For a franchise IP movie released by Disney essentially, a 40M domestic opening is not that strong.

Even if I want to watch it again and I have recommended to my friends to watch it, after some reflection this movie is pretty woke.

All the white male actors are synthbots. Dakota has most of the lines. The dude under the predator costume is black or mixed race.

And towards the end, turns out the mother Predator was a bigger badass than the father. But this is where things get fuzzy. Wolfpacks can have alphas that can be either male or female, that's a scientific fact. Hyena packs are matriarchal. Lion prides are ruled by a male breeder or two but the lionesses do most of the work hunting.

Badlands was great. It was just poorly marketed.

The Predator himself was originally played by a monkey during an immediately failed screen test before the role was later taken on by Jean-Claude Van Damme. But something was lost in translation. According to one of the writers, Van Damme was under the impression he was supposed to be the star actor in the film. When they brought out the hot and awkward suit he was supposed to wear out in the jungle instead, he was understandably pissed off and was eventually fired from the production.
