Explaining Reyes vs Jones

Jones doesn't have the style to give Reyes many problems tbh. Despite how his career has panned out since, If they rematched Reyes would still give Jon hell today, just based on their styles and body types.

Reyes struggles with power punchers. Jones can't bust a grape and Reyes has shown he has some elite wrestling defense across his career.

Jones has also historically struggled with athletes that can match his height and reach and are as comfortable fighting from the outside as he is. Jon excels when shorter guys need to close the distance on him because he's a master at staying outside of their range and not allowing them to get in close. Reyes didn't need to get in close and could do more damage to Jones from afar.

Adding on to that, Reyes was at his career high without any losses and was feeling indestructible.

Reyes was confident and had better boxing than jones that night, His body type makes it harder for jones to grapple with him easy

How you supposed to take this thing down huh?

The thing is Jones almost only fought guys way after their prime and MW's, so whenever he faced a guy about his size that wasn't 90 yrs old he mostly struggled.

What was it? Reyes having the best night of his career? Jones slowing down or the most lmao excuse of not being motivated?
Jones looked old in the Santos fight too before this and Reyes had him doubting himself in moments. What do you think it was? Imo, Reyes is a bad style match up for Jones as he doesn't have knock out power and he can't keep someone his size on the outside like he did to DC. Reyes also has better boxing and if Jones can't implement his wrestling, it becomes a tough fight.
If Reyes and Jones fought today, do you think it will be the same tough fight for Jones?
The absolute usual bs when Jones fights opponents his own size. Jones not motivated, Jones didn't train, Jones was drinking days before, yada yada yada. It's all bs excuses because people can't grasp Jones has a padded record based on fighting smaller opponents. And without roids Jones likely has at least three losses. Gus, Santos and Reyes.

Probably the most accurate post in this thread. It makes me wonder, perhaps there aren't many guys like Reyes and Gus in the sport of MMA? Tall, lanky boxers with good footwork and TDD.

2 things.

1 - Jones always looked beatable against guys his own height. Happened numerous times.
2 - Jones is very arrogant and often overlooks opponents and thus ends up unprepared and fights to their level.

All about the matchup.

Reyes is tall with good boxing.
His weakness is power.

Jon has shit boxing and no power in his hands.
He struggles with tall strikers.

Agreed. That's what made DC so impressive. Guy was consistently able to close the distance even with the absurd height and reach disadvantage while guys like Rashad and Rampage had no idea what to do.

Perhaps one of the better nights in his career. Saying he overachieved that particularly night is unfairly giving Jones too much credit imo. Reyes is a talented athletic fighter with great TDD and striking, who happened to match up well with Jones in size compared to most past LHW's. Jones has always struggled with guys the same size and reach as him. Combine that with age and drug testing and there you have it.

As someone who hasn't been in a fight ever, I would guess that it simply comes down to - shit happens, and then you talk about it forever.

You ever wonder why you're so negative?
I think WE ALL do, but we can't find a reason other than a possibility of a giant stick up your ass.

Your posts are like selling heroin to a junkie...yeah it feels good because you're making money but its killing the community around us you toadstool.

That excuse doesn't really work and never brought it. Jones is obsessed with staying undefeated so there is no way he ever had a shortage of motivation. Style makes fight and Reyes had a good style. At the same time, I think Jones regressed a little too.

That dude is still stuck in middle school era, tbh. Tries to sound cool and aloof but comes across as cringe and on the spectrum.

Corruption. All three should be sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole

Why are the first 2 rounds scores typed in, and the rest are written in?

Reyes at top of his game and Jones probably didn't take him seriously enough.

I have absolutely no doubt Reyes won that fight IF the judges had scored it accurately and fairly.

At that point of his career, I think the judges were almost scared / intimidated against awarding Jones a points loss. I think they bottled out. Kinda choked it.
-They EXPECTED Jones to win as he is so lauded so psychologically they were already writing Jones up as the points winner before the fight had even completed.
