Evolution of MMA is more hype...

It will probably take another 20 years until we have someone as talented as Jon Jones in the sport

Didn't Jones learn striking from YouTube videos lol? To this day, young Jones is the most mind blowing fighter I've ever seen. He was like an overpowered cartoon character in there. Dude basically KOed Machida on the feet and went on to throw DC around the cage like he didn't belong in there.

1) It was always a sport. No weapons. Ref in the cage. No assistance from team-mates or gang-members. UFC 1 was to fighting what a zoo is to the savannah.

2) You are mighty nostalgic for the 90s for someone with a 2016-join-date.

Royce subbed 6’2 250 pound Dan Severn (former world champion wrestler, US Olympian), but he can’t submit 5’2 125 Demetrious Johnson

I'm guessing you haven't seen Royce's fight with Hideo Tokoro - who is 5'7" and competes at 135.

Royce outweighed Tokoro by 40 pounds and still couldn't beat him. It was a very competitive bout, and Tokoro is a mediocre fighter, nowhere near DJ's level.

We are discussing 1993 Royce not anything past 2000 when he was already way past his prime

There -- corrected it. You're welcome.

Evolution of any sport is more hype than reality.

Hype and rule changes have you believing the opposite of what has actually happened... athletes have not evolved, sports have evolved into, er, sports.

Believe it or not, because of the changes in the rules, the backyard past time is now actually a sport. What a deterioration.

What a waste.

Evolution of MMA is more hype than reality.

Hype and rule changes have you believing the opposite of what has actually happened... fighters haven't evolved, fights have evolved into sport. The rules used to be simple, no gloves, no rules just use your discipline to kick the other guy's ass. Now? Use a cup, if you just graze the cup you get 5 minutes, no finger or digit manipulation, no eye, throat or spine/back of the head strikes, no kicking a downed opponet in the head, you have to wear gloves, you get to rest between rounds, yes, there are now rounds and, most of all, WEIGHT CLASSES.

We see a lot more "talent" in today's fight game only because the rules and regulations, mentioned above, allow more people to participate. With no weightclasses how many Aldos, Demetrious Johnsons, McGregors, GSPs and jon joneses would you see? Hell, even the 265lb cap limits what is truly out there.

We can't complain too much because we have gotten to see some amazing fights and characters through "the evolution" but we can't forget that this isn't really fighting anymore. It has become a sport.

1993 Royce when he was actually less skilled and less experienced?

Or when he was 40 (2005) years old versus when he was 28 (1993) years old?

Going to pretend he was better at 40 than at 28?

<Lmaoo>

The mods apparently had enough of your Fedor cockslurping back then :D

My memory isn't very good, you should definitely check with them. I look forward to you having a conversation with them about it.
