Evolution of MMA is more hype...

Agree with most of what you've stated but I think there are just more people into MMA than there were back then and not that MMA has evolved. Just a thought, if the rules were thrown out, don't you think this would fall back into BJJ domination? Remember, many of the rule changes have been geared towards leveling the playing field
Sadly, I think if the rules were thrown out today, wrestle-fuckers/lay-n-prayers would "dominate".

Ken Shamrock would literally eat Demetrious whole
Demetrious was held down by McCall, Cruz and Tim Elliott
He would definitely lose to Royce, Ken, Severn and others

You're trying to say "size matters", which is obviously true. However, putting Royce on that list is ridiculous. DJ would absolutely destroy Royce in whatever manner he'd choose. That'd be the most confident bet I've placed on MMA in years.

No, those guys can only hold a Jiu Jitsu guy down for so long. They all gas and it's only the rounds that save them. If they fought for 7 or 8 minutes straight, they'd be done.

Instead of using the first few UFC events, or even pre-UFC MMA, as references, compare today's MMA to the early days of unified rules MMA. Then you'd be comparing apples to apples instead of two very different combat scenarios.
Woah, a logical post in this thread. I wasn't expecting that

Not really

I don't spend hours a day nuthugging relics from the past like you do :)

Apparently you spend hours making new accounts after being banned a dozen times though.

Royce subbed 6’2 250 pound Dan Severn (former world champion wrestler, US Olympian), but he can’t submit 5’2 125 Demetrious Johnson

This haha I'm thinkin these dudes never stepped foot on the mats in their entire life.

When I was a fresh blue belt I was doing my thing against purple n brown belts that were much smaller than me. Size matters kids.

There was this big ass white belt that joined and he was wrecking the light guys(135lbs and below). Dude was like 250 and aggressive as shit. He would just stand up like black beast, shrug them off and they would be stuck on bottom until the end of the round

Size and a little skill will take you a long way .

Of course MMA has changed drastically over the years but Demetrious is way too small, even for one dimensional Royce

Little Hideo Tokoro gave Royce problems so I dunno...

Lol

Demetrious Johnson would run through the first few UFC tournaments with hilarious ease.
He would run through today’s entire field just as easily. DJ debuted how long ago? How much has ufc evolved since ?

I swear John Fitch could hold a guy down for 45+ minutes! But I sure as hell wouldn't want to see it. And yeah, I think I agree that wrestle-fuckers (especially when they were huge and roided back in the day like Coleman, Randleman, and Kerr) wouldn't do so well with extended time limits, but the risk of having 30+ minute lay-n-pray matches is just too risky.

True but the overall point being a fight vs a sport.
