Well, it is an improvement on what it used to be called.

This reminds me of a story. So, my brother lives by a cop and a really racist conservative in a small town. So, the racist guy says to the cop "hey don't you want to go check on those darkies" and he cop says "shut up. Those are the Towler boys and they ain't causing any trouble." The part that is funny to me about this exchange is the racist guy probably wanted to use the N word but knew that the cop wouldn't find it cool and the only alternative his brain could come up with was 'darkies'. He literally had nothing else in his head. He literally had to invent a word in his head as to what to call them because he had nothing else other than the N word. It would be like a homophobe try to void calling people fahgots but the only thing he could come up with while trying to be cordial is 'dick blowers'.
