Dunno much about Morocco personally, but my exp in combat sports, I found them to be the best fighters overall. Right balance of aggressive and technical.

Can't name you a single Moroccan champ in Boxing/MMA tbh....

Badr Hari is 1/2 Dutch, 1/2 Moroccan.
about the only one I know.

i've never been, but if you have money, you can generally be safe in most places. though to be honest, i'd rather live somewhere in europe.

On the ammy scene in Canada they do well, that's what I'm in, so I'm more focused on that.

Badr is a full moroccan living in netherlands not half dutch. He would even identify as a moroccan not as a dutch

Yeah, there are so many beautiful (and peaceful!) places along the Mediterranean, like South of Spain, Portugal, Greece...perfect for semi/retirement

A few years back, My father bought a condo in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Canadian winter are pretty shitty, so he live there around 4-6 months a year.
Family members goes there on vacation few weeks a years too.

But, turns out my parents don't like Florida as much as they tought.
They started looking for another place to spend 1/2 of a calendar years.
Started looking a few places in the Caribbean first.
Stumbled across Villas around Casablanca near the water.
Turns out you can have a big fckng deal of a place for 250k
(3-4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, most of time with a small pool)
From what I can see, city looks amazing.
My parents love they fact that they speak French there.
So they seem more than interested in going.

My questions are,
Is Morocco a safe place to live?
Are Moroccan friendly people?
If you're not Muslim, does that pose a problem?
If real estate is cheap, same for the general cost of living?
Healthcare system, adequate?

Thanks Sherbros.

I've been a few times, never needed the health care system but I believe it to be good. Yes it's safe, in the cities etc, can get sketchy in the boonies.

Friendly people, but you have to appreciate that there is a massive difference in wealth. The peasants are exactly that, old before their time suspicious and to be weary of. You would have a lot more money than most people there and you'll feel it.

No problem if not Muslim, the king is pretty progressive and enjoys a lot of American support fighting the terrorist types in the desserts and the south.

I really enjoyed my time there and will return.

I lived in Fort Lauderdale for almost ten years and there were a lot of Canadians, both Anglophone and Francophone.

Anyway, I've never been to Morocco but I've gotten to know some of them in the US and Europe. They tend to be multilingual (French and to a lesser extent Spanish and English) and more moderate/liberal than most Muslim cultures. They're racially and culturally mixed.

Just as an example, pig farming is illegal in neighboring countries like Libya, Algeria and Mauritania, but is allowed in Morocco and you can get pork products in tourist areas there. You'll find plenty of women who don't wear hijabs or veils.

The population is almost all Muslim, but there's a small Jewish minority (that used to be bigger and had representation in government) and they're used to dealing with Christian and secular foreigners. If you're going there on a trip or to live part time or even full time in an area with a lot of expats, there really shouldn't be too many problems there.

Personally, I doubt I would ever move there, but I've long considered doing a trip to Spain and then going down to Morocco too.

I don't let shit like that scare me from doing what I want to do. That could have happened pretty much anywhere. I was in the South of France in 2016 when the Bastille Day bombings took place. I went back in 2018 and had a great time and would love to visit again. It's also worth noting that they were in the middle of nowhere in the middle of Morocco, they weren't in a more modern city and tourist areas where most foreigners stay.

Isn't Lee Murray locked up there

Before he was locked up there he lived where I live and someone I know who's in the police stopped him in his car. That was when he was just known as cage fighter or former UFC fighter Lee Murray.

Very true. There are Muslim countries and there are Muslim countries.
Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Turkey are not Libya and they're certainly not Iran or Iraq or even Dubai.
A country which makes a lot of it's money from tourist resorts on the Mediterranean and serves alcohol everywhere isn't that different to a non Muslim country in the same area.

If people are concerned about terror attacks then they wouldn't visit Vegas, Orlando or New York.....

A lot of people were saved by the Muslim locals in the 2015 terror attack in Tunisia.

Look into vacation properties in Croatia.

Never look into vacation properties in an Islamic country.

what the problem with that?

the fight for survival might give you some content in life when you are retired

lol, yeah i guess. if you're bored as fuck, the streets of morocco are gonna be a lot more interesting, that's for sure.

My dad is Moroccan and my mother is Dutch. I live in the Netherlands, but I have been multiple times in Morocco.

When I'm in Morroco. I'am by my dad and we go to our family and to his friends. My family in Morocco and my dad his friends are nice, the food is nice, and the weather is also nice.

I find Fes and Tanger the two most beautiful places of Morocco.

My dutch grandfather is right wing. When I was young I read in his right wing magazines and newspapers that women in Muslim countries are opressed, but when I'm in Morocco the women are not opressed, they just have tradional roles between men and women.

Would you say that among the shithole countries in North Africa Morocco is probably the best place for women on average? That is my take so far from talking to different people from that region.
